Some more Lexus trail series...

Not sure I/we (we are a 2-truck/2-camera team now...) have any from the Crack. I have some of the red '62...:p

For Saturday Rob and I were signed up for Elephant Hill, we did it on the way in, so doing something else would be cool. Talked to some of the others and Michael, Ross, Phil, Rob and I bailed on our CM trails to do our own thing. None of us had been to the west side of Canyonlands near the Green River, so we decided to explore over way.

There is a perfectly good highway that goes over that way, but that wouldn’t be any fun, so we went out Long Canyon. Great drive that starts at the Jug Handle Arch.

Looking back down the canyon we came up.

From there we ran to the highway, and got off on Mineral Bottom Rd. It’s a nice, smooth, dust free, relatively straight road, well until the end where it has this slight down hill with some curves!:steer:

At the bottom turned onto White Rim and followed the river.

In a “few” years that could be a huge arch.

The spot where we turned around.
Ross giving a GEO lecture, IIRC it was something like; See those are all rocks?:hillbilly:

On the way up the twisty part we noticed a few cars that weren’t so lucky!

No "wheeling" but a great drive to end the trip!

Two pix from our turnaround spot on White Rim Road:

First Ross on the rocks overlooking the canyon of the Green River. If you look on the horizon above the river, you can just about see the striped rocks of The Needles in the southeastern part of Canyonlands National Park. (Well, after looking at the web version, actually you can't see The Needles, not on this resized picture anyway, but I can see it on the original).

The second picture is a telephoto shot of the mountains on the horizon and the Needles rock formation just below - according to GoogleEarth, the distance is about 25 miles. I thought it was cool to be able to see The Needles and think we just passed through there at the beginning of our trek on Monday of that same week. :grinpimp:

Wow - nice drive. And to think Drew, Jim and I were on poison spider that day. I sent Drew my PS pics - maybe he'll post a couple?

Nice pix Kevin, its funny, I have most of the same ones except I managed to keep Ross out of the scenery:lol:.

Carl, you have the wrong avatar, its not animated.:flipoff2:

Looks like yall had a great trip. The pictures are amazing. Wish I could have made it out there this year. With a 2.5 year old and a 6 month old, the wife wasn't gonna let that happen.

Congrats on another great CSC trip.

What, you didn't like my lecture antics?

Just be glad I didn't have the usual stuff like maps, portable white board and a quiz to hand out.
