Hey Everybody,

Here goes. My clutch grabs in first at lower RPM. When I use a little higher rpm to get the truck going it's not as bad. Was a little better right after I bleed the system. Checked the outside of the system, MC, slave lines etc.. and can't find a leak.

The clutch was changed by a Toyota dealership about 25,000 k's ago.

The clutch may be the source of a squeal I hear when out 4x4'ing, low and first gear and coming out of deep cross ditches or walking the front tires over rocks.

What needs to be done to visualy check the clutch?

Where should I start ?

Do you mean that when you push the clutch pedal in the thing still tries to go if the shifter is in the 1st gear position? You may also need to adjust the play between the pedal and the master. Also check the bracket up at the top that the clutch pedal pivots on, it might be broken.

The grabbing/pulsing pedal only happens in 1st. From a dead stop letting the clutch out, rpm's around 1200 or so, I'll get this grabbing feeling as I start to move. The squeal is only in low range and 1st gear crawling along over medium rocks or coming out of ditches etc...

The bracket looks fine.

Does this help?

I'd try pumping the clutch a bit and putting it into gear. My truck has been doing the same thing because it needs a master cylinder. Mine is also leaking though. If you don't feel like pulling the tranny out to find out I'd throw new OEM slave and master cylinders on it, but it will probably be worth it to pull the tranny and take a look around before you just start throwing parts at it.

Thanks guys,

Digging more into all this is planned for Monday and Tuesday, my days off.

New master and slave I think could be smart.

Never pulled a tranny before. Have to consult my manuals first.

They are pretty easy to pull. Just make sure you have plenty of extensions and air always helps. Last time I did a little toyota five speed I think me and my friend did it in 3 hours together and that was while drinking a couple beers too.

i just pulled my 5speed and it was nowhere near as hard as some people make it seem. me and my friend did it in about 2 hours from 2AM to 4AM and just screwed around until 5 and then went to bed. as long as you've got a friend who knows what he's doing you can do it pretty easily.

OK, sounds like it's not that bad of a job. Just a little time and thought should do it.
