So I went out to have a look at a guy's 60 (Nolan's 84 BJ60)

Clutch wont disengage trans from engine.

Hydraulics are working fine and are adjusted properly. Could the fork be cracked inside the bell housing?

Anyone seen this?

Clutch thoughts?

Yes. The fork moves as per normal so the problem is in the guts of the beast.

heard of it happening with the 2f motors where the clutch fork cracked on the inside of the bell housing... so it could be possible with a 3B

You should have a inch of throw at the slave if that is there, it is replacement time. Does it move when he starts in 1st, grinding noise when engine running and tries to put in 1st. replace clutch! Fork should be good.

Fork moves as it should.
Truck will start, and run in 4th while staying put but the clutch is dragging.

This was a sudden failure, no reports of it slipping prior.

I think the pressure plate has failed as chet suggested. I guess we will find out. Whatever the case he will be pulling the trans and having a look.

Thanks boys.

Update, it was the clutch plate itself. One of the springs had come completely dislodged and was impeding the thowout from properly engaging gears. Bought the wrong clutch kit from Lordco, Grabbed the proper clutch kit this time, no thanks Lordco, thanks to Rob @ Rad cruisers. And returned the improper Radiator no thanks to Lordco thanks to Rad cruisers.Turns out that the Rad in my truck is nearly impossible to find, thankfully It is on it's way to Langley to get a new life. Unfortunately the motor mounts were quazi shot in the truck when we dropped the trans. It pressed the engine back in to the firewall as the crank caught on trans while dropping. Linkage is ok in that respect, we have everything seperated and nothing was seriously injured thank goodness the rad and all of the pullies were pulled prior. Going up to grab all of the parts first thing Friday morning for the clutch swap. This also gave me a chance to replace the main crank seal that had gone ages ago, so no more leaks :)

On an aside SlownSteady & RigPig have been such a huge help with this fix I don`t even know where to start. The simple diagnostic was crucial in my overhaul and I would have been lost without thier guidance. Ide like to add this is a great community, any tips on reallignment of the trans are appreciated! also the seal between the tranfercase and the trans has gone, thankfully the previous owner has hooked a drainage hose oiling the two parts. I have been told this seal is a bit of a pickle to fix, does anyone have a link or suggestions on the procedure. Thanks all

Yeah that seal is a pain in the ass. Pretty much might as well put a r/b kit into the tcase at the same time as you'll have it all apart anyways, ( although it's not 100% necessary if the bearings look ok.)

This thread here was a big help to me the first time I went into a splitcase.

I have the fsm as well ( also a good thing ) but that thread had lots of pictures to help me get my head around things.

If you decide on going with a r/b kit, cruiser outfitters is pretty much unbeatable on the price. $285 shipped to my door, ( 235 + shipping )which is almost half what canadian sellers are asking. I'd rather buy local, but I just had too many other uses for the extra 200 bucks. :meh:
cheers,
ryan

Nolan..... Saw you driving the other day so I guess it's all fixed up. How about an update?
