Clunk When I Go From A Stop

drive train seems to clunk when i go from a complete stop. the front knuckles are rebuilt as well as the transfer case and i have new rear leaf springs. The u joints seem good (no exessive play), and all the anti sway bar links are new. is it possible that i tightened the front wheel bearings too tight or possibly it is the tranny mounts.

Did you lube the slip joint? It's a common cause on 4Runners cured with a little lube

check your ujoints for even the slightest *ie barely noticeable* amount of slop...it doesn't take much for them to klunk. also, check the splines on you slip yoke and make sure they're still good, finally check to make sure there is no slop in you pinion flange.

If you haven't gotten the hint yet, none of us regulars think your problem is in the front end. Try blocking a front tire and lifting one rear tire off the ground with the parking brake off. Rock the wheel back and forth and, chances are, you will hear that clunk. Then set the parking brake to eliminate the tranny and transfer case. If the clunk goes away, it came from the t&t/c. If it didn't, then you're left with the shaft and rear end.
