Ok, so I need a 4x4 labs spindle assembly sooner rather than later. Is this group buy actually still happening ?

Yep still happening. If you're simply after a spindle assembly I'd email him. Lead time was for kits and fully assembled.

I have seen the site with mine own eyes and it's pretty great. As per usual a few bugs remain and they are getting worked out.

Does the 4x4 receiver change tow ratings at all? Good to tow as much as the OEM bumper/receiver?

AFAIK they don't rate their hitch for towing. I'm sure there's an "Off-road only" disclaimer somewhere. I wouldn't tow more than a 2000 pounds with it since you have to cut the rear cross member off to fit the bumper.
You may be right, but the bumper bolts into the same location as an aftermarket hitch would.
Only difference is the cross member being removed. Which is not rated for much of anything anyway.
I would be comfortable towing a lot more than 2,000 pounds with a 4x4abs rear. YMMV.

Luke shipped me an extra bumper by mistake during the last group buy, and rather than ship it cross-country twice more, he is willing to sell it to a New Englander willing to drive a bit (or anyone else willing to drive to Western MA) at a substantial discount.
The bumper is everything I was hoping for, by the way. Beautifully cut pieces, very solid, looks great, and I grin every time I hook up a trailer to it. It does tend to build up slush in the winter, but I have the whole summer to figure out the mudflap situation.
