Any amigos with briliant ideas/techniques for cleaning old military water cans?

Anyone know of a specialized product??

Gonna give it the old college try with soap and water, we'll see what happens...

Agree with 450, you can always use a bleach mixture to clean them. Just ensure that you rinse well before use. There are some over the counter type of solutions but essentially you are getting the same affect as a bleach mixture.

...cans

They're plastic cans, crushr...

Any advice on a ratio for the bleach mixture, guys?

Same as it says on the side of the jug for general cleaning i guess...

1 to 10 bleach to water ratio, good for 24 hrs after mixed. be sure to rinse well several times.

thanks all...

rocked the 1/10 bleach solution with great results.

...the Mrs. said I looked like a gorilla shaking that can around.

she doesn't really talk s*** while she's drinking fresh water tho...

Yeah, funny how that works, huh.

Also you can use chains like you'd find at home depot to hang swings and such. Drop it in the can and shake with the bleach until you can't shake anymore. This will clean up the inside walls of the can a little more.

That works but the more scratches you put on the inside of the containers the more places you have for bacteria to build new homes, especially in warm climates. I use a big bottle brush form a brew place. nice soft bristles and it cleans the crud out very well.

Nothin like getting the squirts the third day of a six day trip to ruin a good time!

JMHO

After the bleach, and the rinse...... If you want to get rid of a funny taste, Use Baking soda (ex. Arm & Hammer) same as you did the bleach.. fill er up, pour some B.S. in there, and look like a gorilla ;)

If you don't like the bleach smell or after effects, use a sanitizer from your local supplier for home brew. They have a sanitizer that uses no bleach. Bleach tends to make plastics brittle after prolonged use.

Excellent suggestion. I used that stuff on my tapper lines, works great and no after taste.
I miss my tapper.:frown:
