I will admit the embarrassing part up front - I bought this car with no PPI, mostly because it was located in the middle of nowhere and actually getting a PPI to that location wasn't exactly feasible. It needs work and I do not have the skill or capability to perform it, and I think this vehicle might be best suited in the hands of someone who would actually take it offroad.
The good:
*only* 109,6XX miles
The frame looks pretty great IMO (vehicle was from Mississippi)
Clean Title/Autocheck report
Just had the timing belt/drive belt/water pump/radiator replaced
New front wheel hubs/bearings
New battery and hood struts
New windshield (can't pass the vehicle inspection in NKY with a cracked windshield) and rear wiper
New tires/TPMS sensors, although they aren't offroad tires or even AT tires. (They didn't have my preferred AT tire in stock so I bought what I knew)
Good but not great aftermarket stereo (it has Bluetooth audio but won't display maps)
Various other largely meaningless parts, not installed, to include a new set of Bosch wipers, Fumoto drain valve, roof rack delete kit, and spare engine/air filter.
I even have a little cubby to replace the obsolete height-adjustable panel.
Needed repairs quoted by Lexus include:
- Fluid exchange save oil change
- Power steering is leaking
- Both front lower axle boots are torn
- Leaking transfer case
Other issues:
- CEL (codes P0420 and P0430, probably a cracked exhaust header because it smells like exhaust sometimes at a long red light). Sounds like an excuse for Doug Thorleys.
- White paint is starting to flake off, mostly in the hood area - so perfect for offroading because there's no pristine paint job to ruin!
- Dashboard is crumbling apart. If you aren't doing lines off the dash, does this really matter?
I am anticipating being reassigned to an emissions state and I don't think I can deal with all the needed repairs.
