A few weeks ago I was working on a unique construction project and was using an inverter to charge the batteries for my tools. At some point the inverter stopped working so I checked the fuse to the cigarette lighter. Fuse looked fine but I swapped it anyway and still no juice at the lighter. Before I tear the dash off and start exploring is there another fuse somewhere that might be blown? Everything else still seems to be working... anyone have this happen before? Thanks!

There is a fusible link built into base of the lighter. On phone so can't search very well, but I know I've seen posts on it. But it's a start... Good luck.

When I first got my 80, the cigarette lighter didn't work. This was the problem. I just deleted the fusible link and replaced it with a small piece of copper wire. I'll see if I have any pictures.

Edit: Found a picture. This is of the back of the lighter assembly removed from the dash. The arrow points to the short segment of wire that I had to replace.

The link on the back of the lighter was the culprit. I tried shortening it and then just removing the disc but it just kept blowing fuses. Since I never use if for anything other than USB chargers I decided to just make it a permanent mod.

Don't know how big your inverter is, but for me, anything that draws lots of current gets wired straight to the battery (with appropriate wire and fuse). For temporary items, I'll put some clips on it so I can just clip to the battery.
