Well the trip up to Churn Creek was a great one for all, except me.Well the first half was great.Lots of fun sittin around the camp fire talking and drinking.Watching the Big Horns walking around the shear cliffs across the river. On Saturday we did some great exploring, checked out Black Dome and then found a great creek crossing that was hardcore for some and a cake walk for others. On the way back to camp after all loading up with fire wood the weekend hedged onto the s***ty side for me.Lost control on the gravel travel ending up with Elsie on her side.Did some pretty good damage to the right side of the truck, bent a tie rod end and the steering arm making her basiclly undriveable.Glenn(from the Island)helped get her back on her feet and I limped her back to camp at 10kph.After drinking my sorrows into hiding that night Barry drove me to Gang Ranch where I found a phone and contacted I.C.B.C. and then a Tow Truck. An hour and a half later the flat deck showed up and took my pride and joy away to Williams Lake.I stayed the rest of the week-end then Martin squeazed me and my ampel camping gear into his beautiful 1966 FJ40 and away home I went.
This club of ours is full of great and wonder full guys that with thier help, support, knowledge, and caring turned this awful experiance into a minor blip on the trail of life.I can't think of a better bunch of guys to hang with.

Yes Norm, that's pretty well exactly what happened.Got a farliy nasty burn on my right calf when I was climbing out the drivers door on the muffler. It was like Elsie saying "you hurt me,your not getting out without me taking a bite!"

Thanks Dan,I know you will, she can't be in better hands. It did turn out that I did get alittle messed up.The pain in my calf from the burn has been turning out to be the worst pain that I've ever felt.I went to see my Doc this afternoon and he sent me straight to emerg. I was told that the infection is traveling and has gotten quite deep. They kept me on an I.V. drip of antibiotics then sent me home with instructions to come back tomorrow afternoon for an inspection and drip. Was told that I would probably be out of commision for 3-4 weeks.

Hey Rod, sorry to here about the infection. Hope you heal quickly. :whoops:

Please keep us informed of the ICBC progress as it goes along. I would like to know once and for all how well are insurance works on gravel roads.

By the way, I don't know if you talked to Steve yet, but he handled talking to Kim quite well. We got through on the cell at Ashcroft and she said "I knew something was up, ICBC phoned with a claim number". Really fast for them (long weekend, Sunday and only a few hours).

ICBC coverage on Forest/Back roads

The way it was explained to me is that for the same reason drivers (bikes as well) are required to have public liability on logging and back roads in BC, ICBC collision insurance applies as well. I flopped my truck on her left side on a deactivated forest road on Vancouver Island and ICBC covered the damage, without question. It was a straightforward assessment and repair, as nothing custom was involved. If there was --I would have submitted a file of pictures and receipts, in support of my claim.

Rod should have 'no worries'

On another note -
1) where are the Churn Creek pictures ?
2) when and where is the next event ?

Glenn: I'll have my pics on Flickr in the next couple of days.

Mat: Just need the final day details. Ran into Sopel on Tues at Future Shop, got some trip info from him. ;p
