A few months ago I asked about availability of chromoly axles for the full-float rear axle I got from SOR. Everyone said not available but someone suggested calling Dave at Poly Performance. I sent him my shafts to look at and he said they could do it. They finally came in but wouldn't fully seat onto the hub. At first thought they were a bit too long and hitting the cross pin in the ARB but turned out that the area where the oil seal rides was about 1/8" too long and was hitting the end of the axle housing. I was able to turn down some of that on a lathe and they now fit fine. Pic shows one modified and one just like it came from PP. Other pic just shows outer face.

Apparently these were made from their 80 series blanks. Cost was $550 for the pair. Turns out though that PP doesn't make them - they were actually made by Superior Axle so I don't know if you could order directly from them.

Superior Axle has a distributor program and they do not sell directly to the public...

Those 4340 shafts look really nice. Dutchman can make them too, well for D60's... They can prolly do it for LC's too, I'd send 'em a side gear so they can match the spline profile. They said I could get a dbl. splined shaft with an outer flange. Forget the price, I just went with some Moser hardened shafts - $295 a pair, not cromo.
 
Wow! those look good. From the pictures seems like you're fitting 100 series studs into the hubs? Those axles are for FJ40/45 FF right?

I already got a set of spared FF axle shafts (got them cheap from Aussie Ebay) otherwise I would jump on it.

Thanks for the post. Btw, with these you have an option to run Toyota electric/cable locker in the rear, sweet!

Yes, these are for my 40. Specter says their full-float rear axles come from non-USA 45s. I did put ARP studs into my hubs but they aren't any different size wise than the stock studs that were in it originally.

No, I didn't break my stock axles. I know they're overkill but I mainly got them just because I could.

Also wasn't trying to go around Poly Performance by mentioning that they were actually made by Superior. My main thought was that it took a few months to get them and it might speed up the process a bit if you could.
 
I did email Dave at PP a couple of weeks ago about the additional machine work but haven't received a response. Also haven't received my original axles back but am holding out hope that they will eventually reappear. The additional machine work really didn't bother me as I had the ability to deal with it and it didn't take much time but it could be problematic for others. Also, I don't know if there is variation in FF housings so that could be part of the problem (although they did have my axles to measure from).

Here's a pic of the spline area. Went straight into the ARB with no problems.

AFAIK there're 2 different FJ40 FF axles: earlier-'78 and '79-later, the OD sealing surfaces are different. The early ones are the one with the axle seals integrated inside the axle nuts, later ones have the seals inside the spindles. My axles are the earlier ones, but my spare axles are the later axles but I found some non-Toyota seals that let me use the later axle. Pics of mine are here:

Can you ?. I thought these were stock .
do you have the longer splined short side to work with e/locking diff.???

At taking a closer look at your second pic, it doesn't look like the splines are long enough for an e-locker?

from left to right;

FJ60 long side front
70 series long side front for e-locker non USA but still
OEM
60 series short side rear for e-locker non USA but still
OEM

the 70 series front long and the 60 series rear short both work in 40 series e-locker applications

I have a long side front inner with long splines. I don't know what it is for. If I remember correctly it is 33.25" or 33.5" long.
Does that sound like a 70 series inner long splined axle. If the one I have is not of a 70 series, it would be no good to me.
I have checked on the tech sections and did a lot of search few months ago. I couldn't find any measurements on long splined axle shafts for landcruisers for either front or rear.
If it is not on there somewhere . Could it be added to the faq with all other axle shaft measurement for ff rears.

My 70 series is just shy of 29 1/8"

I'm going to guess that you've got a 60 series?

I'll take measurements of the axles that I have got out at the moment, the 70 series rear long side short spline was installed not too long ago and I hate to remove it just to measure.

I'll be pulling out the 3rd member on it in the next month, I'll see if I can't get a measurement then.

Do you want me to post the lengths that I've got?

For the rear I think it would be the short side long splined that I need measurements for. The long side has no effect on the locking diff I think.
Is there any other locking diff for the 70 series post 91 ?
