Well its getting to be that time of year again, figured I'd get the ball rolling and figure out some areas and a time in december when everyone is free to go out and find a tree!

I was thinking about somewhere around Jordan River or Butler Main areas, but our fearless northern members may have other ideas!

Happy harvest!:steer:

I'm up for this again for sure. Would NEVER cut down a real tree of course tho....;) Maybe weekend of the 7th or 14th? I'll probably bring my kids this year, so would not be able to do any hard wheeling. Just logging roads and easy wheeling for me.

I have caved this year. I took great pride in dragging the family out in winter, frozen, arguing, kicking and screaming to harvest a tree. I went full Clark Griswold every year and enjoyed torturing the family. This year our tree arrived in a box. I have failed. I lost the war.

Those sound like some pretty good dates, I was thinking we maybe do a run up to Tugwell Lake and look for some organically fallen christmas trees

Haha! Thats hilarious! I've almost caved too, more cause I seem to be the one always stuck watering the tree and cleaning the needles up for two weeks.

I OPEN THE BOX, OPEN UP MY TREE LIKE ONE WOULD OPEN AN UMBRELL ON THE 7TH HOLE WHEN THE RAIN HITS, THEN I PLUG THE TREE IN WHILE LICKING THE CORDLESS 500 MULTI FUNCTION PROGRAMABLE ELECTRONIC CONTROL GIZZMO, AND VOILA LET THE LIGHT SHOW BEGIN....FINALLY I SIT DOWN ON THE COUCH, CRACK A WELL DESERVED BREW WITH THE WARM FUZZY FEELING THAT CHRISTMAS IN MY HOME HAS FINALL ARRIVED! :santa:

Caved? Failed? No. Think of it as a victory.

Soon it can go into a box again and not come out til the 20th of December at the earliest.

Dec 20????

Cleaning needles for 2 weeks???

Are you kidding me? If the tree isn't up in my house by mid Nov. I'm hearing about it every day.... Shiiiiiit. I damn near had to paint the live ones green and glue needles back on by the time X-mas actually rolls around. When it is allowed to come down the bloody thing is a bare twig that looks more like an illuminated Calista Flockhart than a tree.

On second thought.... perhaps the plastic tree is a better fit for around here. :santa:

Dec 20 at earliest....

Hideous eyesore lasts a week in my house at most.

Didn't even get put up last year...now THAT was a victory.

Now if we were allowed to call it saturnalia again without the vatican sending out its goons, maybe I'd be more on board.

As it stands tho, when they've managed to expand it until a full quarter of the year is christmas season.....enough aleady. I buy enough junk without the relentless three month guilt assault.

And oh yeah, bah freakin humbug. :flipoff2:

I used to get real trees...then I became a volunteer firefighter...I like to sleep with both eyes closed at night!

Hey Jordan, I don't think I'll be out on that date, as I don't feel like nursing a tree along for three weeks. I'll probably head out the next weekend or maybe even week after, haha. Anyhow, have a good run. I went up North main yesterday with the kids and even found a couple inches of snow everywhere up there. Was nice.

Theres another reason not to let a tree get dry... As a firefighter did you ever have to respond to a Christmas tree fire?

I can't abide by that only because its more dangerous to drive from Sooke to Victoria every day than worry about a tree
burning my house down. Simple caution on both accounts.

GTSS...no, fortunately I have not. Now, I also have only been a volunteer firefighter for about 3yrs and live in a very small community, most of which are on the department, so the chances are pretty slim that I will have to encounter the above scenario. I have done live fire training and seeing how quickly a fire can spread and how the progression of a fire takes place is pretty awesome and terrifying.

I did love the smell and nostalgia of a real tree, but both the cost (if buying, which just seemed wrong) or effort (trudging into the bushes and sniping a tree from property I didn't own) was becoming bemoaning. Maybe I'm a Grinch, but what Jim expressed above is still a holly-jolly experience imho...Ho ho ho and stuff ;-)

So.... It sounds like this run is a no-go, perhaps later in the month...
