we also had a Christmas glazed spiral cut ham along with Turkey....when the Turkey was ready we started on it and forgot about the Ham cooking in the oven.....when we remembered....it was what some people would call over cooked..........It was awsome !! like a giant piece of half/ three quarter cooled bacon...Soooo good, my mouth is watering just typing about it

Yesterday I found the bone from the '09 christmas ham in the freezer.:bounce:

Smell of the pintos cooking kept me awake last night.

This seems like the ideal place to ask this:
How the heck do you cook a ham?

I was given one for my birthday, but I've never really been a fan of ham, and so this damn thing's been staring me down from my freezer, and I'm at a loss as to how to cook it.

Is it uncured i.e. raw?

Naw, it's the cured kind.

Uncured, I'd just smoke it to 205 with pecan and apple and chop, but cured ham and I aren't very good friends.

That one up there was cured, so do it however ya want........that one turned out great.

And there's the rub: I don't like ham (the cured kind), but I have to do something with this thing and choke it down as a courtesy, because it was a gift.

I need suggestions on what to do with it, because if I treated it how I like, it would dwell in the freezer for all eternity.

Give it to someone who likes ham.

I guess that's the way to go.

I'm just trying to find some way to cook it in order to enjoy it, because knowing there is a food item out there I don't care for kind of galls me. I was hoping that somehow I'd find a means of overcoming this dislike.

Almost every cured ham I've tried has been some tough, salty chunk of hog leather, and there's gotta be a better way, and I was hoping for help.

is it a fure sure sugar cured ham?
If so soak it in clean water with ice over night rinse and slow smoke it, like mine above, it will not be tough
or salty.

It's a honey cured ham, spiral sliced.
I will try this, thanks!

Cut the ham off the bone and put it into a crockpot with a cup or so of water. Add the glaze whenever for a sweet flavor. Don't let it sit in the crockpot for too long, say over 8 hrs, or you won't be able to pick up the slices.
