1 - Following Ryan's lead - this was the Perkin's Peak conquest of 2009 (9,250 feet).

Gary was awake at night and watching the meteorite showers late last week. He says it was brilliant with many showing long tails and the occasional one actually ending in an explosive burst. He's a bit of a night owl, likes to both put his tent up and go boating in the dark.

Well, it was probably not as exciting as your unfortunate episode last winter, but we do have some great memories, especially of the Xeni Gwett'n people and their generous hospitality. Truly an exceptional people to experience.

The bugs were not too bad this year. The odd mosquito but no horseflies up on Perkins Peak area. There was some rain at times, but it didn't seem to bring out the bugs in numbers. The pond at the McIntyre Rec site had some mossies at sunset but most of the other lakes: Fish L, Little Fishem L, Scum L, Big Onion L, Upper Taseko L, Chilco L, Tsuniah L, and Cochin Lake had almost no bugs.
Here is a shot of Big Onion Lake beach, and also one of the world's biggest beaver lodge at Little Fishem Lake.

Wow no bugs in Taseko Lakes. Never thought I would hear anyone say that. Only been twice but was practically eaten alive. That's awesome. Sounds like you picked the perfect time to go.

August is the best month - low glacial river melt so low river levels, bugs have peaked - still warm - by mid Sept I have seen frost there. It gets cold fast up there.

Both times I went was end of August. Bugs were brutal. I think you got lucky. Haha.

This year was unusual. When we went there 4+ years ago we were eaten alive by horseflies, this time I think I saw less then 10.
