Damn!!
No bull s***... 14.86 was the last read and the one before that was 14.4x something. Okay, not RIGHT AT 15, but there abouts.
I drive with a light foot and keep the rpms down below 2k, and the milage was with the 35 BFG's.
Well see how the iroks fare.
Just to update...
Death valley trip, 2 guys, loaded w/ gear, MPG 14.85 at three of the calculations that I did.
Rig ran GREAT!!
I'm thinking for a run like that with a lot of miles on washboard roads and such, she might sit home and take the Tacoma instead. For a 5 day run, the space was so limited and ended up relying on others in our group to haul trash and I felt like I was skimping on necessities.
I obviously need to scale the gear down too.
Did end up w a bad leak at the trans and 203 adapter that caused me to bail a day early.
I was soooooo bummed about that!!
Curious as to what you pack for gear for a 5 day. I find that we can get stuff for a 5 day in the 40 comfortably. ( for 2 people)
42 qt. Engle fridge
extra 30 qt. cooler
2 action packers for spares, camping stuff
10 x 10 ez up
tent
2 chairs
4 sleeping bags
1 blanket
1 8 x 12 rug
fold up camp kitchen/table
food box( same size as action packer)
1 air bed
cot
hot shower
fishing gear
jumper box for daughters movie palyer & dead batt emerg.
2 douffel bags/backpacks for personal gear
5 gal bucket/toilet
5 gal water jug
propane bbq
shovel
hi-lift ( 60 ")
10 lb. CO2 tank
Spare 3rd member
30 lb of tools
scissor jack
tow staps
forst aid kit
spare drive shaft
Could lose the extra cooler to make a nice spot for pooch if needed.
I do have a rack that goes over the rear area and holds all the light weight stuff.

K-
Already the truck is too small? Why didn't you talk to me first? I have BTDT. LOL.
Some ideas:
Tacoma is perfectly adequate for DV, and a 100 might be the ideal vehicle there. Maybe you should buy one of those. Or, guy in my 'hood is selling an 80 with 180k for $5500 and it looks nice.
Go on trips with guys with wagons. They can carry your stuff.
Leave the dog home. He looks like he's gong to be huge, which really doesn't compute with a 40.
Roof rack-this works well on 40s with cages. Lots of ways to integrate.
No kidding, you haven't lived until you see a pic-nic table, kitchen, cooler(s), tent, sleeping bags and everything else they can bring be unpacked from the back of a 40. I am still amazed at the amount of stuff him and the missus could pack into a 40 series. I thought I could pack, but I have nothing on the mustachio'ed one.
Yeah... I knew that it might be an issue trying to use a crawler as an expedition rig, but i had to try!!
Having taken my taco for the last two trips down there, there's not much of a comparison. Hands down the taco was MUCH better suited for that run. Far better range, more comfortable and gobs of space.
Only thing is, it's my DD.
I'd be signing divorce papers along with a title for another rig here. , so I'll have to use what I got and just take it easy.
