I have an 88 truck with the 22RE. It usually starts well but if it sets overnight it sometimes has to crank like an old carburated engine. I think the check valve in the fuel pump maybe going bad, has anyone ever put a check valve inline without changing the the pump? I know I'm being lazy but I'm not in physical condition to pull down the tank right now, and just need to get though the winter with it.

The electric fuel pump in these trucks will fill and fully pressurize the system in a matter of seconds when it's running. I would check your cold start injector first. Make sure it's working.
