Check out these monster flakes in my transmission!

I'm at 120k miles. I can't send fluid because.. it's gone :( I would have..

I'm not sure how long it has been since the last exchange.. I wonder when the Lexus service schedule suggests it? I see one at 30k via a quick glance. It must be buried in one of the XXk services.

I think I will check again soon to see how much material it's spitting out...
Service is every 30K for "normal" driving, every 15K for lots of trailer pulling, cruddy roads, dusty areas, etc.

Wow I have 211000 on my original trans in my 2000 lc. Shifts awesome. Fluid always clean when I change it. I aquired this lc at 159000 and change the fluid every 15-20k. One thing that is confusing is the dealership where I work (toyota) tells me the drain and fill takes almost 4 quarts but literature for this year says something like 2 quarts. I always put 3 and 1/2 to 3 3/4 quarts back in and level is good according to the dipstick. Guess I should consider myself lucky as far as tranny life goes.
To the "Low Cold" mark on the dipstick, I refilled with 3 quarts and 12 ounces. I'll add about 4 oz. later today, see where it ends up after driving, repeat as necessary, etc. But this time I'll update this thread with what it took to get it to "Full Hot" on the dipstick.

I've driven about 30-40 miles since this was done. Think it's too late?

If not, how much fluid do I need? Where's the cooler?
Cooler is the small radiator under the hood on the front driver's side. You'll see the hoses connected near the truck center line.

Hahaha, that's reassuring :)

What route did you take for tranny replacement, and what did it cost?

Booo

Sorry for the delay, had the tranny done at a dealer in Gladstone, OR, had some other stuff done too since it was in there, but the tranny work itself was pretty close to $4k.

Im one of the lucky ones that ended up with a new transmission. You may want to pull a sensor and see if there are any shavings stuck on em. I am guessing they will be pretty clean or you would throw a code.

anybody know the drain and fill amount needed. I have been putting 3.5 -3.75 quarts in on the drain and fill. 2000 L/C. manual says about 2 quarts but I know I took 3.5 or so out of it. Anyone have any input on this?

My 2000 drains just over 2.5 quarts. Just a drain, not dropping the pan.

My 2000 gets about 3.75 qts on a drain and fill.

Check out my Transmission postl
Its a 2000 LC which had 130,000 miles on it at the time. you have a lot more metal than mine. The link to photos in first post shows some pan photos. If you go off-road you don't want it blowing up on the trail.

I don't have the OD vibration that are in the other 2000 transmission threads.. but I'll post this now and we'll see how long it lasts.

A real MONSTER metal shaving was on one of the plugs. It looks solid, but it's so thin it disintegrates upon touching (or so I was told).

Enjoy!

My cruiser shop recommended I just wait until it blows up / he wasn't even sure he should have shown me these pics.

To revive this thread again I have another exhibit. I am in the midst of baselining our new 01 LX - 103k miles. I originally wanted to just drain and fill the ATF - but the ATF plug did not come OFF well, and then I noticed that it did not have the washer....well it didn't screw back in right (with a torque wrench) so I have dropped the pan to replace it.

See below the picture of my 4 magnets and in particular the 4th... Those are some pretty long slivers! Thoughts? Impending doom or carry on as normal?

Either way, I suppose I'll install the new screen, FIPG, pan and plug (and washer this time), flush and fill and drive on, but interested in your thoughts on my slivers?

The way your pan looks you will need a new transmission in another 500k miles :). You should not worry.
