Last one shows the wire I ran to power the light on the plate.

Came out great! Where did you get the "toyota" light and bracket? Man a fre wants like $60 buck for theirs.

Hear are the bearing numbers that i have for the kaymar spindle.
top bearing LM11949
bigger bottom bearing LM67040

The toyota light came from gray daniels. It is from a early 90's 4runner with a factory swing out spare holder. I can't find the part number. The number should be somewhere in the 80 forum archives, but I can't find it right now.

cool! i will look for it. i bought a light already and will try this first. did your light come with enough wiring to reach factory wiring connections. the light i got from autozone came with 3 inches :frown: after looking at your pics i noticed that my tire carrier mount is on upside down :o so i just have to flip it. i will do that when it is not 20 degrees outside.

What is upside down? I'm not seeing it.

I used a water-resistant disconnect about 3" from the light so that I can dis-connect the plate light if I need to take the spare off. I got the disconnect from Hooper electronics off of terry road. Not sure if auto-zone type places might have it or not.

After the disconnect is where I connected into some small guage wire that is designed to be buried underground to power walk-way lights. I got it at Montgomery hardware in Fondren, but I bet a Lowes type store carries it. That wire runs along the swing out and underneath the truck where I pick up a body ground and the 12V signal wire that used to power the OEM plate light.

I'm thinking of putting a 3"x2" light just to the right of the spare under the lip where the oem plate light is. Hook it to a switch in the back of the truck, as well as in the cab. I was thinking it could serve as a backup light when driving but then as camp lighting when parked as it would be pointing down towards the ground in the back of the truck. I'm still looking for the right light.

the mounting bolts should be one on top and two on bottom. mine is currently the other way two on top one on bottom.

definitely would need to have a quick disconnect for the light. good idea having a capable light back there for setting up camp, etc.

Got it now. I'm not sure why it would matter, are you?

only reason i can think of is for the kaymar sticker on the lock plate to be the right side up. if it was designed to be the other way maybe it is for a reason.

My Kaymar sticker is covered by my license plate, so it wouldn't matter if it was upside down. Shouldn't matter as far as making it easier to mount the tire on there either. I'd leave it, but I'm lazy that way.

going to start on license plate mount this weekend. Not sure of where to wire license plate light up to.

Here is my license plate mount done. All's i have to do now is wire it up. I used the existing kaymar locking plate thingy and welded a bolt on license plate mount. that silver thing above the plate is the light that needs some connectivity. Takes for ever for paint to dry when its 40 degrees out!
