when I looked at this last, of the main manufs it seemed like the Firestone Destination was the least expensive.

(and it's arguable whether the G MT/R is a mud tire...?)

size?

you'll find that some tires only come in certain sizes.

the largest size for the firestone mentioned by e9999, for example, is 285/75 R16 the last time I checked.

for my dollar...I'd consider either that firestone mud terrain or dunlop MTs. I think the dunlops are the less expensive of the two.

I have some Dunlop clones (MFG by Dunlop, labeled for Les Schwab) on my big truck. IIRC they were fairly inexpensive and they have performed well so far, actually better in mud than the BFG AT's I had before. They are very noisey on the highway and I can tell already they will get nowhere the milage that I got from the BFG's.

IMHO cheap tires are a waste of money and time. I only put cheap tires on the truck because we plan to sell it soon.

How about some SuperSwamper LTB`s ..... VERY cheap, Very mud capable..

Oh yeah, you said that you plan on actually driving it on the pavement ....

Never mind :D

BTW....MTR`s suck in the mud !

Big Foot XT

also very good in snow.

Maxxis Bighorn Mud Tires are nice for the price, sort of like a MTR clone

I just picked up at set of 315 75 R16 for ~ $625 :D

Maxxis buckshots are even cheaper but not as good in wetter weather.

I ran those Big foots XT's, nice tire but more like a AT & not very good in the mud IMo.

Ditto what theside00 said on Hi-tech retreads. Your other option for virgin tires is Kuhmo MT's. For the year and a half I've had them they have worked well with no troubles. I think I paid ~$120/tire for 285's.

I'd venture a guess that Wally world would not sell recaps because of how the general publics perceived recaps. Plus they would look strongly at the their liability if there was any issues.

cruiserloser,

You didn't mention what size you were looking for and I forgot to ask. That being said what size and what vehicle will they be mounted on?

I hear good things about the Hi-tech Retread tires.

I am seriously looking here for a set of 31 x 10.5's @$65 each!... I have not heard back from them on shipping to canada though - anyone done this?

They seem to have a pretty good track record, however its easy to not post any negative comments from unhappy customers...

I'm on my second set of Hi Tech mud terrains. The first set was 31s on my old 4runner. Now I have 285s on my 80 series. Haven't had any problems with them, though one of the tires had a slow leak that I patched, but I suspect that I did it when I siped them a box-cutter. I think they are a really great value. . . can't be beat.

Mud Dawgs are what several guys in our club run as well as the Hankook MT's Both tires have held up well.

Later,

I did not think you could even get these in North America! To bad they do not have more sizes though

Well they are a clone of the Simex. I think they just started producing them. They are a bead to bead remold not a retread but they are still a re-manufactured tire.

You CAN get Simex tires in the US but they are like $280 each? something crazy like that and they aren't DOT market if that matters- these remolds ARE DOT marked.

I emailed them and asked it they were considering other sizes- no response yet.
