I got my block off plate from DOA. Header from DT minus EGR piping. Plugged the intake manifold and BAM! Done. The truck gets about 24 mpg with 4:10's and 31" at's. :)

....sorta cheap tricks.... you could plug the factory exhaust manifold etc...

After a year of HARD crazy wheeling, skidding logs and abuse it finally spun out a rod bearing...

Here's where it ended up when it finally gave up the ghost...

Not having a title or being even close to street legal in the first place I am parting it out and using the springs and other good bits on an '80 long box we got this summer for $250. It has only 114K on it and it will be around for a long time...

But keep the cheap tricks coming because they apply to the 20r as well! I was thinking of rebuilding the 22r bottom end from the '81 and sticking it under my 20r head. Suposed to be a pretty badass combo from what I hear. What do you think?

I think Hilux did it... As long as you are inclined (unlike Hilux) then it turns out pretty damn nice. Just gotta get the right parts sorted out!

can you blame desmogging it on your spun bearings.

No this one still had all the smog equipment attached... I was so busy beating on it that I never really got around to doing anything but a tune up and welding the diffs. I think the thing had about a bazilion miles on it anyway. It burned quite a bit of oil.

I have no issues with doing away with smog equipment myself. I never seem to get as many miles out of a Toyota engine as some guys anyway because I'm so busy flopping them over and reving the wee out of them. I figure it doesn't really matter for me. I also like rebuilding alot!

My '80 came with the egr messed with because it has a header that didn't have the egr provision. Someone just smashed the tube shut and let it dangle. I'd like to clean it up a bit with the proper block offs and such.
