My sons car is sick. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good reliable external fuel pump that sucks well? It will run in series with the stock mechanical one.

The stock mechanical pump won't pump enough fuel when cranking, and at times when idling. At higher RPMs it's fine... The stock one has been replaced once by the former owners, and they added a little Mr. Gasket one which has now died.

Oh, and the budget is... Zero.

I know, he's not wanting much...:D

He knows he'll need to spend money. Just don't want to spend $180 if a $40 pump will do just as well.

Only you would go there...

Likely just get annother Mr. gasket one.

I'm thinking we should ditch the stock mechanical one. Any thoughts?

You're right. The mechanical one had a return line going off of it so I've kept it. At least for the time being, I don't want to mess with bypassing it and testing to see how much pressure the needle and seat will take.

The new version of the mr. Gasket pump is cheap in more ways than one... I wouldn't recomend for a 40.

The Carter p4070 (or similar) I've had in my 40 for 15 years is far superior. Too bad they're $180+ in Victoria. Jegs, Summit, Amazon, etc they're $75-90.
