Hi Guys

This might be a simple question but I was wondering what would be the problems in having a chassis which was completely flat i.e. 2 side rails joined by various cross members to make a ladder frame? Like those used on trucks.

I have seen pictures of various TLC chassi (what is the plural of chassis???) and they usually are bent up and down at various places...

More noddy questions to follow...

Quick thinking here, if you are jacked up enough and as you flex, your axles or other doesn't get in the way it would work. Body mounts for support might be some work. What are you trying to mount to a ladder frame. In the day when I was doing rods, most pickup trucks had ladder frames and they worked just fine
 
So long as you make the ladder narrow at the front and wider at the rear it would work. Then you would have to fab 100 percent of a tub to fit.
 
Having the frame rise over the axles allows for a lower center of gravity and room for suspension travel.
 
Thanks guys... I want to make a custom overland vehicle with a 45 series body on it... and was wondering if it would be better to have a custom chassis so that it saves the hassle of modifying an older TLC 45, 60 or 80 series chassis with all the bits that i might need...
 
Better, yes. More expensive, Absolutely.

It all depends on how much you want to modify and how much you can have them build into the frame.

You planning on doing all the work?
