I've been dealing with a parasitic voltage loss of a while now and I've had to use my National Luna battery controller to self jump several times. The other night walking past the truck I noticed the ignition ring light was on. I hadn't driven the vehicle in several hours and thought this to be a bit odd.

What controls that light? If I can't fix the circuit I may pull the connector or bulb, but that could mean something else related could still be activated.

The current starting battery is less than a year old. I have a second battery that's a few months old and an alternator that is also just a few months old. The original alternator was not charging the batteries at full voltage and had to be replaced. The second battery failed soon after and wasn't able to keep a charge.

You can perform a little surgery on that control and replace the zener diode; that's what keeps the light on.

Passenger side kick panel. Remove the small green box.
Thanks. What does the small green box support in the Cruiser besides the ignition ring light?

Well... I think I see the problem. This board is nasty with corrosion. I had both a windshield leak and a overflowing sunroof drains that contributed to this mess. Both of the leaks have been resolved and the zener diode removed.

Removing the Zener doesn't affect operation, it's basically a level of circuit protection that should never be triggered.

And the green box just does the ignition ring light. Removed the ignition ring will just be like many other vehicles - unlit.

cheers,
george.

If you still have issues check the factory amplifier behind the passenger side speaker beside the glove box had an issue with a customer's 80 even with the aftermarket radio not using the amplifier.

I think I removed it many years ago but I will check. Thanks.

Absolutely nothing. The ignition "key cylinder light relay" or "lamp control relay" (85965-60010) is shown in the interior light section in the EWD. That's its only function.
