So, I took the truck to a mechanic. They said I needed a new fuel pump and quoted me an obscene amount of money ($1000) for the job. I had the truck towed home, and opened the hatch under the rear seat to see how much work I was in for.

Here's an interesting one.

Is it just me or does that line look like its pinched? I've compared it to some other images of the fuel pump bracket on here and some other forums and mine just looks wrong. The PO had the fuel pump replaced by a shop last year. I'm wondering if they dropped the tank instead of using the access hatch and hit that hardline on something on the way back up.

Fuel pump working harder to get past that kink = burns out faster, plus the truck wouldn't be getting fuel as easily as it should.

Quick question, where are you located at this way one of us can try to find you a local to help a bit better.

How shiny are the screwdriver marks on the hatch and the top of the sender b/c I'd wonder if by you cancelling the work and having it towed whether or not you pissed off the shop you took it to. If it's a reputable shop for the inspection I'd say it wasn't them and the one beforehand. Ask them if they spotted anything unusual and how did they check things and is there an inspection hatch at all. If they answer they used it, well go from there.

Ultimately though, I'd say forget all that and since you can see where you need to start just start there.

Update:

New fuel pump, filter, and pump bracket installed, truck was running again. Still had the code 22.

Bought a new pigtail for the CTS and installed it... still showing the CEL. Took a good hard look at the plugs on the back of the motor and had an epiphany. The PO said that the CEL had been on ever since he got the truck back from the engine rebuild. The plugs for the CTS and the sensor that activates the CSI were swapped. I swapped them... and no more CEL! Truck also started up much better than it did before.
