Morning all

quick question on my J100 it seems to have a delay in charging.

basically when i start it the alternator doesnt seem to kick in straight away it takes about 30 seconds and its right then

ive changed the alternator but its still the same im sure i cant be only 1 with this kind of problem but ive never seen it before on 1 of my cars

any help greatfully received

Thanks

Is it actually kicking in after 30 seconds are is the instrument gauge kicking in after 30 seconds? Are you testing with a multimeter?

Does your truck have a diesel engine? If so, it may be glow plug related.

The alternator on my Ford 7.3 PSD has like a 30 second delay after start before the alternator starts charging. Something to do with the glow plugs drawing so much amperage.
