Cary,

Not affiliated with PIAA, but they do makes very decent bulbs. The ones I mentioned do not produce blue beams, but the closest(?) to sun light possible.

Frank.

Why not try HIR bulbs(HB3/HB4) with 110/130 equiv. brightness(IPF claims) like this at the bottom of the page (not cheap). Also you can see high-efficient(they claim) halogen bulbs there as well(max. 150w equiv. brightness):

You can also try going with other reputable companies' stuff:

KOITO:

FET/CATZ(a few efficient HB3/4's available):

This page lists small pics of different bulbs' in action if that helps you see different affects of different colors, sorta.

These companies are considered reputable, at least, in Japan. I just wanted some of you to know that there were other light companies in/from Japan other than PIAA. :D

This was all just F.Y.I., I guess. As you can see you have a few to choose from. But unfortunately, I don't have any experience with them. I would be tempted/willing to try some of them. HIR seems promising(Christo said it was good before), but a little expensive.

And I'm sure some of the claims they make with "brightness equiv. to" stuff don't live up to your/our expectations, either.

My 2 yen.

Hope the links work ;)

We run and sell the IPF HIR bulbs. They are not cheap, but to date in 3 years we have not blown a single one. When run with the upgrade harness, they are the best setup we found, other than going to true HID's. I used to run the HID conversion but I am not crazy about it since the pattern just does not seem right if the reflector was not designed for it.
