Hi,

1997 1FZ-FE , 80 Series, Manual

Upon coming to a challenging section when off-roading, I usually stop, press the diff lock button, Change the Lever to "L" from "H" and set 2nd Gear.
When the tricky part is done, I would normally stop again, press the diff lock button and turn it off, set the Lever to "H" and move.

Questions:

1- When changing to "L" should I must turn ON Centre diff lock? In which cases I don't need to turn it ON when in "L"
2- When in "H" , can the Centre Diff Stay ON all the time? (during off-roading. ). What will it do if it stays ON in "H"

Thank you.

Yes, you can even do it "on the fly". Try not to do it while turning though

As long as there is anything but pavement under the tires you can have the center diff locked for as long as you need it. Nothing bad will happen.
I turn mine on when I hit the secondary roads (sand, gravel, clay) and turn it off just before (200m or so) I get back to pavment.
