I know this have been covered, but I just can't seem to find the info so I'm started a new thread. I have just got a '95 and want to add a CDL switch. On my '93, it uses the "rounded" switches and I used an ECT switch for the CDL function. Way cheaper than getting the same switch that says "CDL" or has a cute picture. Same functionality.

On the '95, it doesn't take the "rounded" switches. It takes the smaller "square" switches. Being frugal (i.e. cheap), I'm looking for an inexpensive switch that will just pop into one of the blanks and take the factory plug without modification.

I remember something about using a hazard switch from a 4runner. Is this right? What years will work? Is there another switch that will work?

I also have access to a '95 parts rig. Will the hazard switch from that cruiser work?

Once again, TIA.

I think that switch will work. It's easy to check just pull the wiring from inside the dash.

If you have access to a 95 hazard switch it will work. Takes 5 minutes. There is a plastic tab that has to be broke off on the hazrard so that it mates with the factory connection. It just behind where the normal factory hazard location.
There are write ups and YouTube vids about this.
Find or make a small decal or mark it.

The ABS and Diff lock bulbs light up on the dash when you hit that newly placed switch.

I read that it should work on 94 and older. But you need to search for 95 and up defrost switches compatibility.
There are a few switch know it alls here that may know and help though. If I remember correct some 4 runner rear diff lock press style switches also work.

Defroster switch is different and will not work. Hazard is the one you want. Yes, there is a tab on the switch/plug that needs to be removed. I removed the wrong one first, then removed the other. So I plugged and taped mine together and it works fine.

I tried using my hazard button to operate the CDL. It would lock the CDL, but would not unlock it. I might have a faulty hazard button. I ended up buying an OEM CDL button and it works great.

Just an FYI.

You can also move those around switches in that row if needed. I stuck the antenna down below.

Sooo, why wouldn't you just do this: Slee - Electrical Switches Makes life easy. I get using parts, but it's the right switch.

Hmm, who knew?! I guess you did.

My brother has 3 parts rigs, had to bug him forever for a hazard for $10. He’s a parts whore’der. Its very situational to use much like lockers in general. But nice to know it’s there if needed. Adds another level of traction control. Really practical. Anyways Hi range rear locker has been useful for high wheel spin situations like the back road snow drifts around here lately. Envision dual rooster tails flying dirty snow 20 ft out the rear end.
