I need to replace my cats since someone was kind enough to remove them over the weekend while I was downtown. I'm going to get a magnaflow instead of the OEM replacement and I found a Merlin shop that would install for about 500 once the parts come in. I can get the cat for a lot less online or even through pep boys, but I would need to have it installed. I've talked to a couple of shops, but they aren't willing to do just an install. Does anyone know of a place on the North or NW side of town that would do just an install, adding on some pipe to make it fit?

Thanks

Sorry to hear about your CATS! I was just talking to my parts guy about that today. They're getting close to $90 a CAT at the recycle yards. I'd put a skid plate or something else to make access to the CATS very difficult next time.

E&T muffler on Foster at Cicero is good yet cheap. They welded up my exhaust to my headers in my FJC and IIRC charged me under $150.

Any of the small muffler/exhaust shops in the neighborhoods in the city will do it for MUCH less. Like Phil said about $150 will get you an aftermarket cat with an air tube if needed. Look up Mufflers 4 Less -- they did my 80 series with an ftermarket and I even had them turn it to fit real nice and snug underneath.

Mufflers 4 Less on Elston?
Had them do exhaust on the van, they do good work.

Went to the one on Belmont/Elston yesterday and got everything put back together. So far everything seems good and I'm very happy to have it quiet again and not be huffing exhaust fumes. Thanks for the recommendation.

Did they just use a sawsall to cut the cats out of the 80?

The nitwits usually have a battery powered sawzall and have been targeting a lot of 4Runners since their cats are exposed. Once off they take them to the metal scrap yard where they get @ $90 for each CAT. Seems that the platinum in them is what they are after. My NAPA guy has been getting orders for them on a daily basis!

It looks like thats what they used, quick and not too loud. Took them off at the flange behind the first 02 sensor and 6-8 inches ahead of the second. I was pretty happy they left those. Even though the truck seems a lot quieter now and the CEL is finally off, I'm still kind of bitter about it.
