Carb Kit Question

I have to order a Carb kit so my buddy can rebuild mine but am totally unfamiliar with what I need. Local parts stores have them for 20-30 bucks but I wanted to check what brand is best of the three. We have GP Sorensen, Echlin, & Borg Werner. Then there is always whatever brand CCOT and $OR carry. Anybody know which one option is best? Also, will I need anything other than what these kits include?

Carb Kit

I have used "Keyster" and "Borg Werner". In my opinion the later is crap. If you don't have a digital camera borrow or get one. It helps alot. Also get the FSM for you vehicle.

I would also go to SOR's website and make sure of the carb you are working on is the one you are ordering the kit for. Someone switched carbs with the wrong year on mine.

Those are ALL THE SAME. If you had the chance to open the boxes, you would find that they all have the same packaging and the same master part number from the source that is responsible for repackaging them to all those suppliers. They currently supply 15 different vendors with their kits. I cannot remember all the names to add to the list, but I'm sure that Carter, Standard, and Parts Master are 3 more.

They are not bad kits, but they are not as good as the Keyster, which I carry. [pretty sure $OR and MAF carry too]Keyster is cool because they usually include a few hard parts the others don't like idle mixture screws. Parts vary year to year. Beware tho. I learned the hard way a couple of years ago that not all of the parts in the Keyster kit are guaranteed compatible.

I rebuilt one customer's carb (out of several hundred I've done) with a Keyster kit and it ran worse than when I started. To make a long story short, when I tore the carb down the third time, I actually compared the parts in the kit to the ones I had taken out of the carb and, lo and behold, even tho they had looked the same at first glance, the slo jet that was supplied in the kit was 30% smaller than the one I had taken out!

Now I keep a year by year spec list on the wall above my carb rebuilding table! Lesson learned.
