thats what i did and the carb fan works. its been on now for 20min so hopefully it will turn off in 10min or so. thanks for the help!

No prob. Glad to help. All those sensor leads get fried, so if you're going to wire it to the sensor, insulate it somehow, or tie it up out of the way of hot things...

Alternately, some people who by-pass the sensor, wire in a switch so they can control how long the fan runs, if you don't want to let it go on for 30 mins.

Pete, are you getting the hard starts in this (Winter) weather ? Just curious.

S.

Months later , I know, but I'm just gettign to this, my wires were melted , so I re-wired using insulated appliance wire, the kind for ovens, so it can take a lot of heat.

Where do you buy that wire?
I have some that i've stripped out of appliances, but the supply is running low.

Found it at my local TrueValue, the small hardware stores usually carry this kind of stuff

ok, so after reading all the post, pulling out wires, relays, etc. the outside temp made to about 70F yesterday, and the fan came on after a 20 min drive. The last 2 weeks the temps have been in the 20-30s at night and 50s during the day and the fan would not come on...could it be the outside temperature? or a coincidence, or maybe one of the relays was not in all the way? BTW the M4 relay discussed on another carb fan post affects the ignition, when its out, the truck will turn over but not stay on once I release the key, I pulled the M3 relay (basically right next the the M4) and the truck ran fine....maybe just 22 year old truck weirdness:hhmm

It is a challenge to keep the carb fan working as the manifold area heat fries the stock wire. I added a section of #12 wire, Romex NMB, which seems to handle the heat. Further, the sensor is a threaded stud around where the down pipe and manifold mate. The thread on the stud accepts the threaded cap from a spark plug.

So, I know this thread is old as heck, and I'm sure it has to do with the relay, but my fan stays on, grounded, ungrounded, car on or off. This kills the battery. Right now I just pull the fuse if I'm letting it sit too long.
