Just got the new issue of Car & Driver in the mail today (Oct 07). There is a preview article in the mag on the LX570 (page 106). Talks about the engine, special features, options, etc. Interesting comment, says the frame is the heaviest and toughest frame on any Toyota, including the new Tundra.

Performance Test numbers (C/D est):

0-60 6.5 sec
Top Speed (governor limited) 107

I doubt the top speed estimate is accurate, unless it's from Lexus/Toyota. I believe the 100 series is limited at 112. Not sure why they would lower it. Especially with the big new motor.

Curb weight: 5,900

Estimated base price is $70,000

fast machine

Damn that is fast. Ya'll will kill me but I just bought a new Escalade with the 403h.p. motor for my wife....I swear.... ;-)) I wanted to wait for the LC, but it does not have buckets in the center...so we had to pass on it. Hopefully, I will sell my 80 one day and get me a newer LC.

Article also mentions a new "Crawl Control" system.

"a low speed, off-road cruise control. Up to 10 mph, the desired velocity is maintained by a system that closely monitors wheel speeds and works the throttle and brakes to ensure traction in ruts, sand, and polo-field horse poop."

Off road cruise control eh?

That technology has been around for about ten years now. The first vehicle I owned with it was my 2000 MB ML270cdi. Land Rover have used it for many years and now have different selectable programs for traction depending on the type or terrain as well as their 'hill decent control', abs and stability control and 'emergency brake assist' which slams the brakes on at full power if an emergency situation is detected and switches hazard lights on at the same time.
Also available on some cars like my Q7 are lane detectors, detectors for passing vehicles, adaptive cruise control that slows the car down if it catched up with a leading vehicle, and automated parallell parking systems. Land Rover have a portable wireless camera system that displays on the dashboard monitor.
All good stuff and easy to implement with todays CAN BUS wiring systems. I expect Toyota to have most of these options and a few more available on the new Land Cruiser.

Here's what the Ozzies get with the new LC....of course, way better than the crap we are going to get here....

"This was posted to 80sCool by Maarten Verschure earlier today.

Dear Members,

I just recieved the information that the new Landcruiser is officially named 200 series. For general specification the following engines are available;

4.0 V6 Petrol 1GR-FE as found in the Prado, Fourunner, Hi-Lux, Tacoma, Tundra and FJ Cruiser. Gearbox is manual 5 speed ( H150F ) or 5 speed auto ( A750F ).

4.7 V8 Petrol 2UZ-FE with VVTI as in previous 100 series for General spec and USA. Gearbox is manual 5 speed ( H150F ) or 5 speed auto ( A750F ).

4.5 V8 Turbodiesel 1VD-FTV as in Australian 7# series but with twin turbocharger. Gearbox is manual 5 speed ( H150F ) or 6 speed auto ( AB60F ).

Diff ratio's are 1 : 4.10 for V6 and V8 petrol and 1 : 3.909 for the V8 TDI. Only rear diff lock or LSD. Transfer is chain driven like Prado and
2007 Tundra.

Performance figures not released yet but Toyota Europe mentioned 280HP - 680 N/m for the V8 TDI.

With best regards,
Maarten Verschure"

EPA of 13-17 is better than the current 100 and 80.

New EPA ratings
80 = 12-14
100 = 12-15

Thus 13-17 is an improvement over the older models. Not bad for a larger and much more powerful vehicle.

Besides if you are worried about fuel, you should be driving a small car every day and only use such a large vehicle when you really need it.
