can you get to sloquet hot springs this time of year

hey guys just wondering if anybody knows if you can get there this time of year and if so will the hot springs be buried in snow or what , how will the road in be also

nice , i'm not sure if i am going, but i may .i have some friends who want to come in from the other end from kamloops they are trying to talk me into meeting them there . i wasn't sure if it would be buried in snow up there . i may have to put the 38.5 inch swampers back on for this drive .

I saw some pics from a group that was up there a few weeks ago. Looked like not much snow at the pools. Not sure if the logging is keeping the road open this time of year, or if it was just in decent shape. The recent weather should help...

Let me know if, when you're going. I've been to St Agnes, but not Sloquet yet. I'd take the route from Pemberton and meet you there. Here's an idea of what I would bring to the table:

If you go let me know what it's like now a days...last i was there was a while ago and there was big run of river activity and the road from Pemberton was prelude approved, 4 lane highway if I remember correctly...... been thinking of heading up that way for a weekend with the family for some spring bear hunting and a dip in the hot water, then the creek, then the hot water and then the creek....... some beautiful hot springs for sure!

Do the indians still have an open dump near the end of Harrison Lake on the west side? Although it was good for bear watching and seeing turkey vultures I like to eat my bear meat and don't want one that's dined on pampers......

I can't go this weekend. TG and all.

The last time I was there was July 2011. The road from Pemberton to the Sloquet turnoff was not rough. There had been some washouts in the year past and at a few spots there were some short spots that were made narrow by fallen debris and there were a couple small trees down. It definitely didn't seem to be maintained to the level you describe.

The roughest part of the whole trip was the top of Harrison Lake, but my bro went through a month later in his Forester. Then as you get further south it just gets easier and easier till you hit Harrison Mills.

I don't remember an open dump.

ive had it before, not exactly my choice of game. yes the dump is still there. might be a tad early ,but probably one of there first stops though. there's a couple of game valleys that im sure your up on.

Normally I'd feel awkward side tracking the thread but I know how things roll around here

Bear meat although tough makes very good sausage or slow cooked meals as it can be very mild tasting as opposed to the strong gamey flavours deer sometimes have. I make a tastey italian fresh sausage which I add beef or pork fat too as the meat is extremely lean.

Of course you are what you eat so people recommend against killing them during spawning season or near tidal areas as the meat can taste fishy or clammy.....it's the law for black bears that you must remove all edible portions to your principal residence....

Bears eat deer/elk/moose fawns/calves, in some areas they account for 50% of moose calf mortality! Not to mention most hunters target larger males which as a means of ensuring dominance, food supply and territory will kill and eat young cubs. So hunting for bears also can have benefits for overall bear numbers.

Some successful years my family eats almost exclusively game meat, it's funny what you can get accustomed to, and you go have a beef steak at a friends and it tastes gamey.

Yup, what ED said. Maybe a bit simplified, but the intent by law is everyone that hunts black bear eats black bear. Damn good in stew as well.

Never been to Sloquet. Too bad its not like before when the bridge was out and it was a backcountry site. I hate that hotsprings and other crown land natural features that should belong to us all get commercialized/privatized.

Nothing wrong with a bear roast half smoked. I use to have it regularly when I was working up at Fort St. James. Also, bannock with bear grease and huckleberry jam is pretty good too. Never had coastal bear. Interior bear is pretty good. Bear grease also makes good soap.

road is good ,redo ing the old slide at 68 up km,do to knew hydro electric project there now. springs open. new gas and diesel gas station at tepalia( port douglas). dump closed , i wouldnt think the bears would get a chance at the pampers because it seems there are at least two dogs per house hold. i fished my way back and came accross one bear on the birkenhaed behind owlridge, and the butts of the elk up the elaho.
