Can the transfer case output shaft be swapped while in the vehicle?

I've been chasing a vibration during acceleration and deceleration around 30-50 mph. The vibration is consistent with two different drive shafts (double cardan). I've had the driveshafts balanced and still have a vibration. My angles are all good - trust me I've studied this for years and validated with others.

The next consideration is I have an output shaft that isn't true. I leaning this way because I had vibrations with a stock transfer and also after swapping in an Orion. The output shaft is a common variable. I've checked run out by using the drum face and it 10-15 thousands although the drum face isn't a great surface to test on. I should really remove the speedo housing and check there but I've been lazy.

If I need to change the output shaft, can it be done in the vehicle by removing the speedo gear from the back and the nose cone from the front? I simply cannot remember.

I believe you’re talking about the transfer case mainshaft right? If so, the answer is no. You’ll need to pull the case and fully disassemble it.
