Ok i have an 86 yota extended cab 4x4 5spd, stock suspension, 2in body lift, etc. Its the 22re 4cyl n/t. Im wondering if i can pull a car on a trailer safely with it. Car at full weight is 3300, but ha no motor, trans, engine harness, so thats at least 400lbs or so gone or whatever. Trailer i dont know weight, but normal 2 axle flat floor trailer.

Can i pull the car and trailer safely?

Most I pulled with mine was 3000lbs. I think anything to 2000lbs is safe.

The truck stock is rated at 3500lbs.

2 axle trailers weigh between 1200 and 2500 lbs unloaded.

Do the Math.

I have done more towing of a 3,000 lb tent trailer (with trailer brakes) with my 22re truck than I care to admit. It was never fast (especially heading up into the mountains). I always felt like the trailer was able to push the rear end of my truck around way more than I was comfortable with. Now that I have an 80 series to tow the trailer with and am able to compare the towing/handling between the two trucks I realize just how scary it was with the mini truck.

i have had a cord and a half of wood on a trailer push me through an intersection in my 84 4 runner. thank god the guy waiting to go stayed when his light turned green i would have creamed him good. also it was raining when this happened.

can you - yes
should you - only you can decide
how far you need to go and over what terrain should play a role in your decision (are there any downhille sections?)

If it was me, I'd ditch the idea of using a flatbed trailer and rent a tow dolly

If i had the extra cash i would. Im probly not gonna use the truck actually. I still havent fully fixed the soft pedal issue and decided it would be too unsafe. It is ALL flat interstate driving so thats not bad, but im gonna play if safe and possibly use my dad's gmc 1500 or something.
