Can I drive 800 miles without my front Driveshaft?

Been driving my 96 model for years, something like 50,000 miles, with the front DS out, transfer case locked. No issues. I use this 80 for local driving only ie: on pavement.

If it hasn't been posted yet, the quick procedure (without a dedicated dash switch and wiring modification) for the later Models is to pull the Emergency brake handle tight, turn ignition key to ON or start engine, shift transfer lever to LO and leave it there (Diff Lock and ABS lights should come on, if they don't it means the CDL isnt locked). Then turn the ignition key to OFF, remove Diff Lock fuse from dash fuse box (this removes power to the Diff Lock motor on the transfer case), then shift transfer case back to HI. The Diff Lock and ABS lights will remain on when the engine is running until you reverse the above procedure. Last, remove your front (or rear) DS, release Emergency brake handle, drive the vehicle. You'll notice the steering feels a bit lighter with the front driveshaft ("propeller") removed.

as someone who rocks "TRPLOK" on my plates this made me chuckle
Pardon me kind sirs. Would by chance your Toyota 80 series land cruiser automobile happen to be properly lockable at both fore and aft wheel differentials, as well as the center differential?

no, clearly you are mistaken, its an LX

Have been having the out of phase/balance issue on my front driveshaft, removed it to test if it was only the front, and got no vibrations. Am wondering if I would be able to do a roadtrip of around 800 miles all highway.
I have removed the Front Driveshaft on my 91 FJ80 and engaged the Transfer Case Lock to bypass the differential in the Transfer Case. I had the same vibration problem. I took the Front Drivshaft out to get it balanced, found a few cups in the U-joints had corrosion. The driveshaft splines need lubricating as another possible source of vibration.

I did not reinstall the Front Driveshaft. This reduced the driveline friction making the truck accelerate faster and reduced fuel consumption.

I do not drive off-road, freeway or street driving. I have driven approximately 12,000 miles will no ill-effects. The Diff Lock warning light stays on and I ignore it.

Yes, you can drive it with the Front Driveshaft removed. I suspect Toyota designed the truck so that you can drive it with the Front or Rear Drivshaft removed, so that you can continue to drive if a driveshaft fails. Intelligent people those Toyota engineers building in failsafes and redundancy in the Landcruiser.
