Was coming down from Payson Friday night @ 8pm and there was at least a 20 miles backup bumper to bumper going north into Payson. It was a pretty cool site to see a lot of miles n miles of continuous headlights. Glad I was heading in the opposhee direction. Those poor bastard sitting in that traffic.

Greg was one of those poor bastards, waited there for like 2 hours... Glad I'm at home!

As slow as they were going I figured it would be a 2 hrs crawl..

The I17 traffic sucked! I waited to leave till later and still sat in traffic for a hour!

The two on line temperatures were 48 & 51 this morning. I have two outdoor sensors and both read 43 for a low. I had to put on a long sleeve T shirt to go outside. Really starting to feel like fall up north.

Heard traffic was real bad yesterday on interstate 17. Guessing a lot of people held off with the truck fire and huge delay on Friday afternoon.

And that is why I camp close to home. With a 3 day weekend everyone runs to the remote spots. Leaving the stuff nearby almost empty.

In the past coming back late the traffic was always lighter. down side is getting home at 10:00 PM unloading then getting up to get to work at 6:00 AM the next morning. Always hear come back early to beat the traffic. Seems everybody tries this and traffic has always been heavy no matter how early we would leave. Most the time took Tuesday off and came back early enough to beat the afternoon work traffic.

Think people head up north not so much for remote spots but to get out of the heat. Hard to fine somewhere close you can use a jacket in the evening and morning. Fall turkey season was as much about the cool weather as it was hunting. Working in the HVAC field didn't mind driving my non A/C FJ40 just to get somewhere cool. Pine forest of Northern AZ is where I feel I'm home.

Now that we have seen what the traffic looked like going up the road? I am interested in reports of what it is like coming back on Sunday or Monday.
Just got home left camp at 8:30 this morning no traffic. Exactly 2 hours and I was camping between Sedona and flag.

Found it quite enjoyable up north. Traffic wasn't terrible. Had a good time.

Just on the news ten mile backup on interstate 17 around Black Canyon City.

I went to Prescott on Saturday and was caught in that. Stop-and-go from the Carefree Hwy exit all the way to Sunset Point.

I drove to Greer yesterday morn from Show Low and it was camper after camper headed back off the mountain. It was pretty quiet once we got up there! Don't envy the traffic down there. We stay home most holiday weekends and hibernate. :p
