Look into the Mountain Hardwear Hammerhead 3. Unless they have changed the design since we bought ours it fits all the criteria you listed in the first post. We put a queen air bed inside with room to spare. Windows all zip up without fly.

Mountain Hardwear: Camp : Hammerhead 3

x2! The better part of the roof unzips to reveal a mesh roof- great when the sky is clear and the stars are out.

Try the Black Diamond Single wall tent...

I have the black diamond light house. It's a nice tent, single wall, small, light, and great for one person. however, the few times I've used it in the rain, it has not been perfectly dry. A little water drips in where the tent poles stretch the seams. maybe I need to reapply some seam sealer.

Another issue is that this tent in not legal for sale in California, due to the fact that that fabric is not fireproof. I had mine delivered to my mother in NV, then she forwarded it to me.

Interesting that CA has different fire regulations. You think that would be quite standard across the U.S.

As of right now I'm leaning towards the Canvas Tent for car camping and a different smaller / lighter tent for mountaineering and backpacking.

Thank you everyone for you input so far.

.

We did the same thing. We were struggling with the car camping option and not completely satisfied with large nylon tents. After reading this post and researching other sites and reviews we went for the the Kodiak 10x 10 Deluxe bow flex as it gave us 2 extra windows, gear loft and gear organizer for not much more money. We were able to go to our local Sportsmans Warehouse and check it out in person and we were sold. We tried to low ball offer on Ebay and got rejected so I called them, competitive edge that is. Apparently they had a price incearse. So long story short the guy on the phone made us a deal on the deluxe for $379 shipped (actual shipping to boot). We just got back from 5 nights camping and loved it.

Easy to set up and take down, longest part of set up is staking it out. 2 adults, 2 kids, winter gear/bags and 2 dogs it did not feel cramped at all.
