hey folks
I've been searching around and couldn't find any post compiling campground recommendations.
Wouldn't be nice to have a registry with good comping sites, recommendations, locations, coordinates and maybe even pictures? of course, with the admin/mod permission.

what do you think?

I like RV Parks, Caravan Parks and unique RV Camping locations - Campendium

I also just check the USFS sites (terribly organized) and recreation.gov, reserveamerica.com and reservecalifornia.com (if you're intereseted in california state parrks). The last three is OK. A little hard to navigate but has lots of information.

I only recommend camp sites that i don't like. If i ever find somewhere good, the last thing i want is everyone else going there.

Some of best campsites have been just random beautiful places in national forests and BLM land. Dispersed camping is the way to go. Who needs a campground?

Not being a native of these shores, what rules are there regarding camping off piste? If you find a random remote spot can you just pitch for the night or are there permits etc required.

Generally, you can dispersed camp in most national forests and BLM lands. You have to check each region for specific restrictions.
