Greg: I didn't start this thread to debate the merits of the idea.

I'm not debating the merits of the idea either. I'm pointing out that one doesn't have to spend the energy lobbying to ARB to make this happen. Just buy the other set of shocks too and swap parts. Better yet, get Kurt or Christo to order a bushing set for the N74L's.

To me, when people are spending thousands to modify their 100's for the trail.....another $150 (or whatever) more to achieve this level of performance is NOTHING in my opinion. It's a no-brainer. Heck. buy both shock sets and swap parts. I'd do it in a heartbeat, though the majority will not.

This is the point I tried to make in my last two posts that was apparently lost on you.

Eventually OME L's were offered for 80's. Well, it's time for OME L's for the 100.

As for the match of the shock to the spring.....so what? Slee suggested a retainer. Good for him, I did it, though there's MANY 80's out there running a 3-inch lift spring and L-shocks and the springs aren't popping out.

We're not talking about 80's, we're talking about 100's. It is a problem and it requires additional welding that many don't have easy access to or don't want to do to retain the spring. This has to be taken into account when SELLING this lift to customers.

If one's concerned, add $20 to the shock upgrade and there are no worries. I have the same springs and shocks on the 80 and WILL NOT retain them, despite offering even more lift due to the lack of weight. Heck, I ran the 863/N74L setup without sway bars and they never came out. The deal is that there are zillions of modified suspensions out there that use a retainer so they can achieve the performance.

Will you?

Will you not?

Doesn't matter to me....though you're missing out off-road if you do not. So is the aftermarket.......which is my point of this thread. :)

Yes, I probably will add 863's and N74L's when I add my rear bumper. But I don't need to waste my time lobbying ARB to make a shock specific to the 100 when I can easily purchase N74L's. That's my point.

I hear ya Greg. And nope, you don't need to. 80 owners did though, and eventually they got a shock dialed in ideally, just for their truck and application...the N74L. :)

Absolutely! Its no mystery that longer shocks in MANY applications will give more travel, however there is some liabilty that comes along with selling the kit knowing they don't have the means nor the intention to finish the job correctly.

80's are not 100's, different market right now. ARB has been offering the L stuff for ~ 3years now, and thats after the 80 had been on the market for over ten years... There is no doubt that many 100 owners will start to mazimize their rigs as guys like Shotts & Slee have, but we all need to remember that IH8Mud has a FAR greater concentration of those that do modify their hundreds. Seems the average guy I sell a 100 Series kit to just has bigger dubs in mind. I look at our local Cruiser scene. I can think of 3 100's that hit the trails on a regular basis, and only 2 of them have any lift at all...

Just my 2 cents. Glad to see you put some brainstorming, time and research into this Shotts, you are definetly an innovator amongst the 100's :D

PS... I still don't see ARB making an actual labeled shock for this application assuming the bushing kits I am checking on are available loose. Reason: they seem to be trying to reduce the number of different parts applications they stock. They have done this alot lately with the Air Lockers (now most Toyotas use the same lockers, just different bearing kits). They have also been doing this with the Dakar linup, deleting redundant and uncommonly used part numbers.

Still a cool mod :D

Actually 80 owners did not lobby. The L shocks were a direct result of us asking for a longer shock to match out then 5 inch kit. We would like longer but that is the longest they can make . ARB only made it then since we committed to buying the whole first batch.

One think that you are also forgetting is the valving. It might be OK, but it does not mean it is perfect.

Not forgetting. That's another reason it would be nice to have an ARB N74L equivalent but for the 100.

Nobody in my family can tell the difference on the ride. Valvings gotta be real close if not the same.

You know me with this truck. If something's not prefect, off it comes. The L-shocks stay on, and so does YOUR BUMPER! :D

We can look at it when I am back. Sitting at the Air France lounge, cocktail in hand, waiting for my flight to SA. These dam French moved all the keys on the keyboard:

I hope your picking up your upper control arm adjusts for my Lexus. Who else sells these? :D
