1982 FJ40 - So Cal.
SOLD!!!! to Matt & Nancy!! This FJ40 is an original CA truck. A US Army Major purchased it in 2004 from TLC in Van Nuys, CA. He was the third owner and I have all paperwork since that time, including TLC’s invoices. The Army Major sold it, just before going overseas to Afghanistan, to a local gal. I purchased it from her (in Texas) and had it shipped back to its’ home state. So you know, TLC passes on over 90% of the FJ40’s it finds and only purchases/resells the exceptional ones.
Built 1/82. Vin# JT3FJ40CXC3352485. Original 2F engine: (2F 606458) Mileage: 106,244. Compression: 160, 150, 152, 145, 145, 158 (excellent numbers). It has an OME 2.5” suspension lift with brand new front springs and bushings. The interior was Line-X’d by TLC and they did a great job. It has a full roll cage that connects to the stock rear cage. The headliner was replaced by TLC and still looks great. There is not a radio and the dash still has the original radio delete faceplate and was never cut. The dash is in very good condition with one crack in the middle.
The factory PS works great and has an aftermarket cooler, which is a plus. The A/C (Vintage Air) cools the truck very well (just installed - 7/09) and uses the newer R134 Freon. Custom knobs from Andrew Maurer were installed for the A/C. This FJ40 has the optional center console with rear heater.
It comes with two ‘82 owners manuals. One is a reprint the other is original and in excellent shape. The MT tires have about 60% tread remaining. The spare is new. At one time there was an aux fuel tank installed. It was removed for some reason, but the space required to replace it is still there. In other words, the muffler is in a spot that allows for a reinstall. There are only a few spots of surface rust on the body. I attribute this to the dry climates it has spent all of its life. The paint is original, color code 033. The paint is in good condition with a little bit of cracking on the left front fender and the expected chips, dings, etc. here and there.
All mechanical work was performed by Jim Dickey (local LC guru): Master cylinder replaced, Entire exhaust system including CAT and muffler replaced, the transfer case was rebuilt, the transmission was opened and inspected and the clutch was replaced, multiple emission components were replaced, all tie rod ends replaced and front end aligned. All fluids were changed, including the front & rear differentials. Full engine tune up, carb rebuild, filters, valve adjustment, etc. Belts replaced. No fluid leaks whatsoever. Brakes were inspected and are in good shape with plenty of life. I made multiple cosmetic improvements including a new OEM front bumper and OEM rear bumperettes. This FJ is turn-key.
I really see this FJ40 as perfect blend of a rare, stock and “correct” ‘82 FJ40 with off-road upgrades that allow this to be both a great on and off-road vehicle. I have over $30K invested (plus countless hours!!!). Asking price $23K. Pre purchase inspections are welcome. New CA smog certificate in hand and ready to register in CA or it will easily pass in any other state. PM or email me at john@centralcomm.com if interested.
