I was replacing vacuum hoses and broke off the nozzles on one of the BVSV’s (see second picture). I ordered a new one and tried replacing it tonight but I couldn’t screw the new one in all the way. My frustration got the best of me and I really tore up the metal on the BVSV “nut” (see first picture). I’m going to try to even out the sides with a die grinder, but I’m trying to figure out why I couldn’t screw it in all the way. I’m wondering if it’s the green plastic that is around the threads on the new BVSV. I thought that was a self sealing gasket that I had never seen before, but now I’m wondering if I need to remove it in order to screw it in? Any help is appreciated!

It’s like tapered pipe thread, with sealant already on the threads. You don’t need to screw it all the way in. Just screw it in until snug. Get a new one and start over.
I have so much trouble with these parts that don't screw in all the way. I need to get used to them. Thanks for the info.

You found out the hard way those BVSV housing are made of VERY SOFT BRASS for a reason - They go into an even softer, thin-wall aluminum housing. Just get them tight enough and nipples angled correctly and the green sealant does the rest.

I forget the size, but I bought a cheap Harbor Freight DEEP six-point-socket and cut a slot in it to clear the nipples, so it's like and oxygen-sensor socket, and works great.

You don't want the BVSV protruding too far into the Thermostat housing anyway.
