LOST CAUSE.

One failed attempt with plastic weld material... did nothing, just seeped right throw it.
And Actually, I consider the plastic rotten. When I stick my knife in the hole it just keeps splitting, so even if I did patch it, it would just keep going. If only I could buy the top plastic part....

I just decided to go ahead and put in a new Toyota radiator in my 94 LC. Pick it up tomorrow evening and will have a nice 101 degree day to work on it Saturday. Better get started early.

I was going to go with aftermarket, but after being told by Ben at Slee that the only one he would consider was a Koyo, and being given high prices on it when I called shops here in Dallas, I just decided to go ahead and get the factory one. It held up great, and I sure don't want to do this again.

I'm doing it myself, so the savings on labor, I'll put towards the better, more expensive parts.

Good luck with yours.

Bryan

Exactly what I'm thinking... OEM

How long does it take to install a radiator?
I ordered a CSF brand and it has 3 rows. Everyone is telling me it's as close to OEM as one can get....

It gets here this afternoon....

Should i wait and install it tonight and head to Tellico with my rig driving through out the night arriving in time to wheel tomorrow?....

or

Should I head up with the Scion tC loaded down and be a passenger?

It shouldn't take more than an hour to install. It's just refilling with fluids that will take a little longer. Take the cruiser to OTM, you'll be sorry if you don't.

I'm waiting on the radiator!
The scion won't make that last ledge on Slickrock anyway!

don't forget to toss in some spare coolant just in case something loosens after the install. See ya there.

Sorry to hear about the JB Weld:frown: It's supposedly better than bailing wire (says so on the package).

You should have tried the egg trick like they did on Mythbusters!

I did this game!
Last summer I went across the mohave desert at 125 degrees plus with a rad that spat coolant every time I shut it off. It would run fine as long as I kept it running, but it would lose coolant when I let it cool. I had to top it up whenever it was cooled off.
I had a plastic tank rad and it leaked at the front seam of the bottom tank. It only leaked at over normal temp. The leak area was not visible. It only leaked at high temp. When it cooled to below 200 degrees, it never leaked.
I bought a new rad for $189 after a year of this. Now it runs great!

Well.... radiator did not make the parts truck on Friday, so I packed the tC and headed out!
I ended up driving the avacado a good bit. Thanks Dan!

Radiator will arrive tomorrow.... now I got all week to install!

I sense head gasket failure in your near future :frown:

I disagree. I sure Eric's 80 is just done with the original radiator.

That is fresh red (2 days old) that has just dried. I flush my fluids at least once a year if not four or five times. I can take a pics of the red I drained out since it's still on my back porch.
You might be right.... but not by the pic you say.

Well... installed the CSR and I like it alot. Time will tell, but I think it's a good marriage. Too bad radiators are 150% more expensive now than they were a year ago:frown:

How ironic is that...JUST bought my '92 LC and got it home to find the exact same spot spouting like a mini geyser...after closer examination, it had been JB'd...and the heat split the JB. It also is a plastic tank. Calling around, they can replace the tank...but no one can get the tank, so I wire brushed it and cleaned it all off and tried to reapply and let it sit 24 hours...drove it around last night and it split again. Not breaking loose...actually splitting down the center.

If you find something that works...let me know!!!
