So a little history.
I had major foot surgery in October of 2024. Two days after surgery I had just taken a few oxycodone I see a post on Facebook selling a FJ60 project truck. Its @gregkline555 selling a partially LS swapped and next thing I know I'm driving up to his gorgeous farm in upstate NY to pick up a FJ60. I then took longer to recover from my surgery than anticipated, had a job change, but finally am ready to dig into it.
Here is his original build thread.
Goals: An updated but still classic land cruiser for daily driving and some mild (mostly fire roads, no rock crawling). The following thoughts are in no particular order. I will update as I go through.
I would love to hear suggestions of things you did that worked great, things you tried that were not so great, and the things you really wish you did when the truck was totally disassembled.
Bodywork: This is where I'm going to start.
I have found someone to cut out the remaining rust, wield in new metal and then we are going to sand her done, prime and paint.
1) Body panels:
cruisercorps.com right and left real quarter panel patches + dog legs (some parts are on back order)

vs
reduxgarage.com complete quarter panels with the dogleg repair (does anyone have experience with this site?)
The interior tire well on the left is rusted but we are thinking we will just bend some metal and patch it.
Plan is to then sand to bare metal and prime.
Once Primed coatings with LizardSkin Sound and Heat control inside, engine bay, heat shield and underbody.
My current thought is, and I'm not settled 100% but to go with the current TRD Shockwave Blue. I may just leave it primed and vinyl wrap it. I think something bright, homage to the traditional blue but a little more fun.
Suspension:
I'm going to take the body off and replace the body mounts.
Option 1: keep the current leaf springs and OME shocks, they look kinda rough tbh
Option 2: terraintamer parabolic leafs and shocks kit. Pricey but might get me to where I want to go.
Option 3: Ball the F Out. Trail-tailor 60 front and rear coil conversion kits. $4400 and I'll still need to source FJ80 axles, coil overs which I figure all together will run at LEAST $6k more.
Brakes:
I think I need to dig into the manual he gave me because I believe there was some work/improvements done. I just don't remember what they are. Will update as it come sup
Engine:
Refreshed 5.3l LM7 mated with a 4L60E behind it adapted (by AA) to the original transfer case. This is all done, think most of the engine harness is finished. Engine bay was refreshed.
I need to finish the engine, get headers, exhaust etc.
Dual battery set up
Should I turbo it?
Electrical: I plan to add all new wiring for everything. I would like to not have a single old wire left in the truck when I am done.
I've been given to undersand that i'll need to add additional fuse box for lights/winch/other electrical doodads.
Interior:
Oh lord, were to start. Need suggestions for all the things
Seats
Audio: add speakers, single din headset with screen and nav etc
Add drop down TV for back seat
Wolfbox (or like) rear view mirror/dashcam set up
Doors: panels, add speakers
Rear body panels: add power, lithium ion batter back, solar charger
Body panel and tail gate storage options
Carpet
Head liners
Add sound proofing to all surfaces
Just some rambling thoughts. I hope to get the body work done over the next few weeks once I source panels and then slowly finish the engine and electrical and of course the interior will take the longest.
