Happy New Year!

Yeah the guy that has it drills some sort of shallow environmental test wells. I never knew what the 70 series were until I saw that one at SCC. They are quickly becoming my favorite model.

They are very cool! I have spent some time in the 70 truck series. Little work horse. Awesome. I would love to have an 08 model.

Same here...and '08 would be sweet...they come with 1FZ-FE ...I'd like to see how it fits in there....that motor doesn't fit in a 40 AFAIK.

Anyway, they're pretty pricey...posted a link to the '07 model last year...I'm constantly posting and reading in the SA forums...

Interesting thing is how Toyota markets them differently in each country...for example, in Panama, you find the "Land Cruiser 70" with 4.2L HZ diesel...but in Venezuela, they come differently with 1FZ-FE as the motor of choice...different styles too... In Panama, they seem to offer the pickup and Troopy styles, but in Venezuela they have a whopping 4 models (all w/different wheelbases)/5styles from the BJ70 style like Scott drove to SCC, the pickup, troopy, etc. but since they all have the 1FZ-FE (which is nice cause it does have 2.5x more HP and roughly 50% more torque than the 1HZ....they are technically all FZJ71, 78 and 79's.

spent new years with the in-laws.... now I need a  x10

Happy 2008!

I'm in, if I could ever get in touch with my boss and see if I have to fish that weekend. It is Midnight Lump tuna season. Anyone else from the club trying to make it?

Made many a trip and caught many a tuna... never made "the lump" . Always wanted to do it. Long time dream... Was hoping to do it this month but didn't make the calls. Was gonna check w/ Myron Fisher.

Isaac, if you ever can, you just let me know when, where, how much and how many people we need. I'm there.

Cole, Isaac, Ricardo any of you know a good mechanic shop or engine shop in the NO or Mandeville area you trust to do a engine swap on a 95 FJ80? We were contacted by Howard Hardee who blew his head gasket and caused quite a bit of engine damage on his 80. 300 + miles on it and he's looking to do an engine swap and is asking for our help on resources. If you know of anyone please let me know and I can give you his contact information or pass it on to him.

Thanks,

LL

I know a machine shop in the warehouse district that rebuilds all kinds of engines, incuding huge ship engines. One of the techs there is a landcruiser head who was doing a frameoff restoration on a 67 and did the engine rebuilt at the shop himself. They don't do swaps, however. Have him email me and I will dig out the name and phone number of the shop and the guy.

Also, there are more than several engine swap services advertised in the greater N.O. area in the Yellow Pages, but I do not have any experience with any. I would think a straight swap would be as good as the condition or quality of rebuilt done on the replacement engine, though.

I agree, from my experience the newer engines don't take to engine overhauls as well as the older ones did. With labor rates so high replacing it with a low mileage replacement is much more economical and in some cases better than a over haul job. Hard lesson learned is don't go through all the trouble to rebuild and rework the head on a high mileage motor. 6 months later I spun a rod and the low end went out. The newly machined head stressed the low end causing the grief. Live and learn. :bang:

Good find Mike.

I started sportfishing with Myron when I was 17. Small world. That was my first mate job on a charter boat. Great guy, we are still friends to this day.

I only run private boats now, so I cant really take out lots of people. But this summer I can take a few every now and then. I have not forgotten that I invited you, we just havent fished since last summer. I will only make one lump trip this year and the boat is full. Myron runs around 1800. for the day. If you want to get on a smaller boat for less money let me know, I have a few friends that charter.

I don't know of anyone in the area. Wish I did.

Larry, I just remembered something,

My buddy did a swap on a 96 and put a 95 motor in it. It did not fit right and they had to take the motor back out. Might want to pass that on to Howard. I dont know why it didnt fit and my friend is out of the country for 3 months. Marve Spector even thought it would fit. He sold him the motor.

Thanks much... I'll take those names when you have time. I might still try to squeeze a trip in if I can do it. Myron's trip was about 1800 IIRC but that was fishing that night... all night and 1/2 the next day... good trip. Had a few buddies make the run.

I wanna go ...been to the Flower Garden few times. Lots of black fin ...few yellows.

Thanks bud.
