I've been having the below thread bookmarked for the last 8 months and finally started reading it a few weeks ago. If you haven't, I suggest you give it a shot. I will say that it's been the most interesting and enlightening thread that I've ever encountered on any forum.

With that being said, I now have a bug that I can't shake. The thought of acquiring a 40 or 45 has taken me over. Knowing that with the newborn, the wife would never go for a 4th vehicle, I'm seriously considering "Finishing" the 80 and putting it up for trade. My only consolation for departing with the 80, is that it has introduced me to Cruisers, taught me a ton about them and cars in general, and introduced me to a bunch of great guys in the community.
The purpose of this post was one to vent, and two to make sure I'm not losing it! I'm so fricken enamored that I'm not sure I'm thinking soundly. Should I hold off and wait for the

IMO if she ain`t to tickled bout the 80 doubt you will make any brownie points with a 40
and if U still want a 40 complete you self contained man cave first

No she likes the 80 and often remarks how nice it would be to go for weekend rides if it wasn't "broken". She's just not crazy about having 2 Cruisers in the garage. I think her comments are driven more by her desire for a new vehicle, which would make more sense than another toy... Especially in her mind! That's where the thought of getting rid of the 80 and getting a 40/45 comes in, bc a trade to her doesn't mean anything. To her it's just a different cruiser in the garage.

Your nuts, LOL, from someone who's been around that block let me share why bud. I certainly understand the excitement for the 40 or 45 and once you own one your always going to want one around its infectious. Agree you should definitely build one but wait until the youngman is a little older. The 80 is equally capable for most of us, the safety aspect for riding the family or youngster around with Dad on camping, wheeling, hunting trips or at least its an easy sell for the wife vs the open top 40 with a babyseat on the passenger seat. Wheeling with a nice guy name Luke from Kentucky at GSMTR we got caught in a down pour he was in his 40 with a 3 and 5 year old in booster seats with a bikini top. I offered to take them in the 80 but he said they were good threw some poncho's on them and headed on their way. I'd say kudo's for teaching them to tough it out but needless to say wheeling with a happy family is much more enjoyable in the 80 when they're comfortable so you can have a good time yourself. Also the 40's if your going to build it will require a lot of your time something I'm sure is in short supply these days. You'll have a few years to sell the boss on the idea

Eric can chime in he just recently went round for round with that same issue he's had a 40 and an 80 sold them both and bought a FJ was wanting to trade the FJ and get another 40 but looks like he may settle back in another built 80

There are advantages to one over the other but like Larry said, owning a 40 is a sickness that you can never shake. I can't tell you how many times I have wanted to sell the tow rig, trailer and the 40 and just get an FJC or an LX that I could drive to the trails. Then I read the rustbucket thread and think about roughing it in the 40 on a trip to Superlift. Then I look over in the passenger seat and see the wife sitting there, soaking wet from the rain we just got caught in. Then I wake up, slap myself and ask "WTF are you thinking???"

I think Holden was doing some dreaming here after he wore himself out with Scott's son Will playing in the 40's start'em out young and you'll always have a copilot. I've been prepping Holden for an FJ or Taco as a first vehicle figure we can get one build it and let him get comfortable in it. He's ok with it but asked when it was his if he could trade it for a 40 I guess we're not the only ones they make an impression on

Stephen's first wheeling trip on the way home. Unfortunately, he has lost the bug. But he does correct his friends and our neighbors when they call it a heep.
I went round and round...I had a 2008 FJ Cruiser in immaculate condition with the off round package, a lift and only 16,000 miles. I couldn't (wouldn't) take it off road though.
I got into this whole addiction 5 years ago when I bought Scott's old 40. Like Larry said, I have had a 40 and an 80 and I wanted to get back out on the trails with the best Land Cruiser Group in the nation. I looked at 40's and 80's...even though I have loved 40's forever, I decided that the most important thing was getting something that I could take the whole family in comfortably and could get there without towing, etc.
So I found an 80 that I couldn't pass up on and bought it this weekend.
I'll get another 40 one day, and am actually still considering buying Ross's, I decided that if there could only be one...it had to be an 80.
Side note though...I bought the wife a new highlander a couple of weeks ago so she is all smiles right now and I probably only have a limited amount of time to pick up these toys!
