>: ( well my Civic is dead in the water. The lowest point on the car is the oilpan, the lowest poin on the oilpan is the edge of the drain plug, Hit a broken piece of pavement, dented the oilpan all to hell, and knocked the plug out. Not sure where I am going to find a new oilpan, all the Civics at pull a part are 1.5 I have the 1.6.

I am wondering now if I couldn't just pull my pan, plate the area, and tap a new hole.

EDIT, and I tried an oversize plug but the way it did when it twisted out, it warped the area and wont start straight.

Or could weld in a new bung for new plug with that new welding setup if you can't find a tap to repair it ;) Also sourcing a pan from another junk yard online threre are a couple million of them running around country and someones bound to have one.

thats a thought, the plug I bought is a double plug even so I could just drill out the old threads, slide this new oversize one in and weld it in place as the bung, then install the smaller plug after it is cool.

Probably could even be welded on the car I am thinking as long as everything is closed up on the engine the oil in the pan should not catch fire, even if it does it will go out once the oxygen in the engine is used up. (would be nice if I could fill it with oil to be able to have the oil be a heat sink, I would worry even less then. but if it held oil I we would not be having his conversation)

Need to go out and see if a magnet sticks to the pan or not, course if it is dented I am guessing it is steel not aluminum, I would thing aluminum would have torn.

WDIT: Good news! Wilie Coyote stuck to the oilpan, If I am lucky I will be able to take it to work. I am really getting spoiled by the fuel economy on that thing.

car-part.com and have someone mail you one. Probably find one for $10. Then go to an offroad supply website and buy some armor for that rig. Those rocks are harsh!

they make an incert that you drill, tap ,screw in, stake it then use a drain plug that fits it.
come in various sizes have used on several occasions work like a charm:)

if you be talkin bout welding on the oil pan will have to be "CLEAN "
no oil no paint & will have to MIG it way toooo thin for stick

did you look on Ebay for a pan?

also if you know what year & application that your engine is bet parts houses can get one as well
