O.o.... I knew there is a reason I quit watching T.V....

Now that I've had some time to do so I watch mostly the sports, history, military and discovery channels. Started watching the new Axe Men series and they added a new cajun charater from the LA swamps logging some swamp lumber. He's funny as hell. I've also been watching the Border Wars I have a new found appreciation for those folks and we all should be lobbying to get them more helicopters and funding to keep up the great work their doing. I knew they were there and some of what they did when I was working in El Paso and through the New Mexico area but not to the extent you see on the series. Its worth checking out.

I now have wireless internet everywhere I go down south. It is a blessing as much as it is a curse. But, most importantly I got to watch the Saint's game last week. Although it was in Spanish ( I don't speak great Spanish ) I am pretty sure they said that the Saints were kicking some ass!

I just started to harvest some huge trees that I will never be able to move with my little BJ-40.

These trees are about 125 feet tall

This is the other end of the last tree.

I never cut live trees. This tree was struck by lightning. Because the branches were intact it was not a home to parots or tucans. (they nest in broken tree tops)

How does Matt's Tundra perform as a tow rig?

Thats some great looking lumber Isaac and I noticed he's using a damn good saw is that a 44'? Thats a man size saw there and you can't beat a hard working Stihl. You could always hook up the turbo'd 80 to those 125 footers to see what it does  so what is your plan to move that size lumber around? I think National Geographic should go down to your property for a AxeMen series  Thanks for the photos I always enjoy seeing and hearing about your trips. :)

I think he's very pleased with it and it seems to tow his setup fine even with the 33's on it. I have a hard time keeping up with him on the HWY he's not light footed. Donna also has the 4 door Tundra and she did great towing her 40 up to Hot Springs. I've towed a 27 FT camper about 7000 lbs with my Dad's 2000 model and it towed great even in the MTN's. Expect to get 10 - 11 mpg when towing though.

from what I hear the oilers ain`t doing any better:meh:

There is a 2000 4x4 on criaglist and thought about taking a look at it. Not sure if I want to buy a tow rig and tow the runner of if I want to drop a 4.3 in the runner and tow a popup behind it. Decisions decisions...

Ha:lol:

He is measuring where to cut so that tree doesn't slide about 200 feet into a creek destroying everything in the way.

Come on down, you are always welcome.

That saw is a 660 Magnum with a skip a link on the chain. I talked to D'animal here on MUD and got some great advice before I bought it. It is the second biggest they make but the fastest cutter while at about 10,000 RPMs. The guy who uses my saw is amazing. He holds that saw all day and only stops to eat his rice and beans once a day for 5 minutes. He is true machine and has balls the size of basketballs. When we cut a dead tree down there is never any way to know for certain where it is going to fall unlike a live tree. If it is cut right next to the road I will watch it fall. If it is in the rainforest I will be at least 600 feet away. We had a large 62 inch diameter 148 footer fall completely the wrong direction. It was caught by a vine we couldn't see and swung around about 60 degrees taking down 4 other very large trees that were alive. It was like a domino effect and they all fell down the mountain shaking the ground like an earthquake. Pretty sad but out of 33 trees every one that was standing hit there mark except that one. I already have some saplings of endangered species growing to replace all of the trees that I am removing as well as the spot where we had an accident. If my forstal engineer is correct I still have about 999,000 more live trees that we did not harm.:D

I don't think the 80 would have a chance other than to break multiple parts, how ever she will be pulling some of the work load next month. I drove her down to Tampa at the beginning of this month and she left the Tampa port yesterday. I'll get over to Porto Limon and pick her up before I go home to spend some time with the family. I am going to hire a D4 Cat with a 225 foot winch to move the wood. This wood is for sale so I will need all the logs as long as possible.

As far as National Geographic and Axemen...........I know, right? You are like the 7th person to tell me that. It surely would be a funny episode, we do some wacky stuff held together by shoe strings.

Sure is strange typing on mud in the middle of the rainforest. Wow, never thought I would see this for quite some time.

Thats awesome :bounce: you must be using some sort of Satellite wireless card or is there a wirless carrier that has reach there? We partner with a company Colombus Networks that has fiber in that area and helping us reach Puerto Rico on several projects columbus networks : connecting the americas I wonder if they're providing any service in Costa Rica.

It is just a little cheap USB pen drive and it uses 3g tech from the cell phone towers. Remote places in Costa Rica just got 3g so it works anywhere I get a cell signal in the country and my property happens to be about 1 mile from the town of Golfito's cell phone towers that are the same altitude. The service provider claims it is 2G per second but I don't see speeds that fast very often.

I have never heard of columbus networks but I will check it out.

Thanks for the pictures Isaac! My wife and I really enjoyed our trip to CR a few years ago. It sure is a beautiful place to relax.

It must have been nice. There is not much relaxing over here. I am torn, bitten, and bruised up all over.:D

Man my internet is working at turtle speed right now. Between the skips in 2 minute intervals and after watching about 15 seconds of the video.............I remember that one like it was yesterday. Sad my kids are not even remotely interested in what we grew up with.
