HUNTSVILLE, AL - Toyota has named Jim Bolte the president of the automaker's Huntsville truck and SUV engine plant, effective April 1.
The Huntsville plant is now one of five of Toyota's 14 manufacturing plants in North America with "localized" leadership, that is, a non-Japanese president.
Tetsuji Okuda, who was president of engine plants here and in Buffalo, W.Va., will remain president of the West Virginia plant. Bolte, who joined the Huntsville plant, called Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Alabama, more than five years ago, has been the senior vice president and secretary.
The move is an indication of the confidence that the North American and global headquarters have in the Huntsville operation, said Bolte, 50, a 21-year Toyota veteran. He praised the work ethic and flexibility of the Huntsville plant's employees "as we weather this storm" of challenging economic conditions.
The plant, which opened in 2003, is at Pulaski Pike and Bob Wade Lane in North Huntsville Industrial Park. It has 860 employees.
It supplies V-8 engines for Tundra pickups made in Texas and for Sequoia SUVs made in Indiana. It also supplies V-6 engines for Tacoma pickups made in California and Mexico and for Tundras.
