I have a moral delima.... My little brother is buying his first 4x4 and wants to go trail riding with me.

Here is the problem, he is Buying an Isuzu Pickup.... Can I slap a toyota Emblem on it and posibly a toyota front axle and con his way into tagging along on club functions like that?

No, I think you should slap him and then talk him in to buying one of these 40s that have come up recently.

Agreed ... slapping the emblem doesn't help as much as slapping the brother.

Obviously, while we couldn't take him in the club... TLCA frowns on that sort of thing...lol.. He's welcome. Maybe then we could all slap him

I dont belive my brother could swing a 40. I cant blame him for wanting the little Isuzu though. I wish I could get back my old Trooper II, I sold it to get the 4runner because it already had the solid axle under it but I miss the power that the trooper had. Those little Isuzu's are like tractors, I once used that truck with a just the 4banger to pull an F-150 on a utility trailer back from Holly Beach after pulling a 20 foot camper across the sand at the beach.

Course if I could ever get my engine running right that might change my mind about the 22r(really the only thing I dont like about the truck is the engine).

I will just try to talk him into getting into LA4x4 and me and him will try to start participating more in that when he wants to go wheeling.

Ok, I well if he comes along on any rides (I would imagine excluding anything TLCA Sponcored like SCC and when we go to Gilmer) I will pitch in some extra to cover his coming along. Is the Razorback Ramble toyota exclusive?

The Ramble is a TLCA sanctioned event. Any trip to Sicily Island or any other place at any other time is for any 4x4 usually. Just do a tech run-through with him to make sure he's up to speed with all of that.

Thats right Josh he's welcome to tag along on any of the Sicily rides, Paradise ride and LA4x4's rides. Remember LA4x4 is open to all and I'd reccomend him joining them. As for the TLCA events I would reccomend you contacting one of the club BOD of the event hosting club and ask if you tie wrapped a toyota grille and badges on it if he could attend. Some may say no but I know of two brothers that attended TLCA events with their brothers driving vehicles other than Toyotas by tie wrapping grilles and badges on their vehicle.

On the Isuzu subject they were great bang for the buck vehicles. My brother had one as well with over 250,000 miles I've seen the PU and Troopers hold up to abuse and many miles but to me they are underpowered. ANd not much aftermarket support. If you're comparing your trooper to the 4-Runner compare apples to apples. We're you running over sized tires on the trooper because gearing makes all the difference running big tire combo's on 4cyl's. Even the 80 I just purchased suffers from the same power loss especially with the AWD and when going to 315's the new gears will be a must. The 22R arguably is one of the best 4Cyl engines built as for reliability in my opinion. There is also a huge amount of aftermarket support and goodies for them. I think its an awesome little motor. Throw a turbo on it 22RET. Had one and that was one cool little animal. :hillbilly:

Your not kidding. the aftermarket for the 22r is more open than the aftermarket for my Dually. I figured a 454 I would be able to get anything in the world for it, but that TBI is really messing with me. Especially since the heads that they came with sucked.

I just need to swalow my pride and bring the 4runner to someon who knows what they are doing to get it running right... Like I have been saying I was going to do for ever a year now :hillbilly:

EDIT:

I cant bring it to toyota though, they would probably just sugjest a bullet to put the old girl out of her misery. :P

We need to look at it at the wrenching session or talk to Paul to see if he can work it in his schedule if its on your work week.

yeah but it is just where to start. I don't know how much we could acomplish at a wrenching session but I am wide open to it.

Gotta start somewhere bud. I would start with making sure its on time and carb tuned properly. The webers are great carbs but can run very rich. Didn't you just put it on there a few months back? Also if it running rich its probably fouled your plugs. Keeping good plugs make a huge difference NGK or OEM Denso run best in Yota's :) not champion like the gentleman tried to sell me. Save those for the lawnmower. When you get the running gear right then you can slap in a Marlin, 5.29's and put those 37's you want on there and have some serious fun. ;)
