I told you so, just give me yours when it comes in clean. You sound too excited. No its a great mag, my biggest complaint is it was a gift from the wife ordered Jan 15 and I just got it this week. To slow for my liking but worth the coin and a great read.

I'm looking forward to seeing some Sicily action Marty, talk them into funding a build project and we'll build one for a write up. :D

That's one of the magazines that I'm writing an article for. Sicily Island. Gonna get some good pics of me, Josh and Thad for the mag.

I will do my best for you but, Couldn't sleep, about to head out and try to get a little sleep in home depots parking lot.

Looks like that magazine has some good info. I will check it out. Have fun this weekend.

Questions regarding FJ80:

What are the best years?
How much more is a vehicle worth if it has factory lockers?
If the 97 comes in as one of the best years, is a 40th anniversary edition worth more?
What's the engine difference between the different years?

I am considering getting an 80 series to do a little wheeling in and have for my daughter to drive in a few years. She's pretty "outdoorsie" and loves cruisers so she would be ecstatic with a rig that was semi-built. Of course, having another cruiser would give me a vehicle to take out on the days when there is greater than a 1% chance of rain. Any help would be appreciated.

Cruiserschwingette?

I hope you are gonna let her make her own name. "Cruiserschwingette" sounds kinda long and surely hard to type. How about "80schwing" or "Schwingiana"....get it Schwing and Louisiana put together. I would like to get my boy his own cruiser but I think he is content with waiting for me to die so he can pounce on this one. He'll let me do all the work then take the keys.
BTW how you been ? I really had a good time driving back to New Iberia with you that night. You have probably one of the most beautiful cruisers I have ever seen hands down! anyway good luck on finding your girl a cruiser. I know she'll have plenty of "uncles" to help her wrench on it.

Hey Armond, I don't know all of the specs and tech stuff on the 80's but here is what I think. My mom had a 1995 80 series and my brother had a 94. I "the unlucky one" had a 91. 90 to 92 had the 3F-E. Very similar to the 3F found in the 62 series. Let me just say this, the 3F is very capable in the 62 because it has 155 hp and 219 lbs of torque, more than the 2F found in 40's and 60's series. Now, the 3F-E in the 90-92 year 80 series just doesn't work well with that truck. To me, it is like they rushed to put out a new body style without thinking about the motor. You rember the early 90's, it was all bubble shaped vehicles and no hard lines. 1993 to 1997 had the 212 hp 1FZ-FE, the only way to go. After driving all of the family member's 80 series mine was the only one that I didn't regret to see leave the family.

As far as factory lockers, it depends on the seller. Do they even know what that knob that you turn is? Generally though, that is a selling point but not a huge price difference.

I think the anniversary edition is worth a little more. They also had a collectors edition in 97 that was not as sought after as the anniversary edition.

Hope this helps.

On dial-up so I got one shot before I lose my patience. Just left Ricardo's house and had a great visit with him and his wife. I could have visited all night. Thanks Ricardo

Thanks Larry. Very good reference source.

You bet, a wealth of info there I've spent the last two weeks reading and researching and have found numerous small things to make the most of the 80 in those forums. There is several a $50 CDL switch and pin 7 mod and you make the lockers work to your benefit and give you several options. Some folks are not fans of the factory lockers as you have to be patient and not as nice as the ARB's but hell plenty capable for a factory rig and I have patience so it works for me. When I was looking I was hunting for factory lockers and the 95 - 97 with 1FZ-FE seemed to best found combinations from the guru's here. I was 80 deaf until I met Mike and seen the factory locked 80's on the trail. Very cool watching this guy wheeling with the kids in the back watching DVD's through this very tough trail  and probably with the AC on. Its a tank and sake for the young lady to drive.

Check the 4-Sale section Isaac posted a locked 95 80 for 2G's don't get any better than that. Lets go see it. I got the gas for the torch :D

Larry Thanks for the link. That is some good reading material.

:) glad to point it out. Some very creative folks in there, I like the recessed lighting in the rear roof speakers for getting gear out of the back at night. Gonna do that as well.

Good feedback  The factory locked 80s are sought after. I called on 5 rigs and emailed on several more and the owners all said that was the first question everyone asked. Is it locked? Nothing real special performance wise on the 40th models some different paint colors and badging but still I always wanted one anyway. I ran into some posts on Craig's list in Houston or Dallas of a cruiser collector that posted a wanted ad for a 40th and was willing to pay over top dollar to have it. Guys like him spoil it for guys like me. :frown:

Enjoy the rest of your weeked.

Question for the morning.... Which FJ40 side mirrors should I get? I know you guys had some that were a pain to adjust is why I'm asking....
TIA!

btw, I got blinkers, brake lights, & license plate lamp now:wrench::banana:.... look out!

I like the head turn method. However, I like the OEM versions that attach to the windshield hinge.

The last time I got mine inspected, the stoned attendent just looked at my truck and put the sticker on.

I sure could go for getting an inspection sticker like that
